McCain's Palin pick is the epitome of tokenism
Salon ^ | 8/30/08 | Joe Conason

Posted on 08/29/2008 7:39:05 PM PDT by DallasBiff

It is hard to think of a more cynical and contemptuous political act this year than John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate. Having served as governor of Alaska for less than two years -- and as mayor of a small town before that -- her qualifications for national office are minimal.

Palin is the epitome of tokenism, exactly what conservative Republicans have always claimed to scorn, until today, as the politics of quotas and political correctness. Even Rush Limbaugh is a feminazi now (at least until Election Day).

But if Palin's résumé is limited, to put it politely, she possesses the only two qualities that McCain now seems to consider essential: She is a right-wing religious ideologue with female gender characteristics. Suddenly that is all anyone needs to qualify as a potential commander in chief of the world's most powerful military. We probably won't hear so much from now on about "experience" and "judgment," McCain's vaunted standard for the presidency until ... today. We certainly won't hear again about the "person most prepared to take my place," the phrase he has used more than once to describe his main criterion for a running mate.

Libs accuse conservatives of which they are most guilty.

By the volume of the libs primal scream, McCain/Palin is a winner!

From the Hillary blog reaction thread...

"I have a feeling, somewhere somehow, Hillary is snickering!

Hillary has to keep the party happy to a certain degree, but for many reasons, I do not think she wants Obama to win.

Plus, you have gotta give McCain kuddos on his awesome timing. Nobody's talking about the "The One's" marvelous acceptance speech, even if they could remember a word about it.

It's all Palin, all the time, even if they are trying to tear her down. I predice ZERO post-convention bump for Obama.

I forgot to post this on the other post...AOL is soooo liberal, they run a close 2nd to MSNBC!

I had an account with them for years before we had much of a choice for any other Internet provider...I would get soooo mad at the slanted crap they were always pushing, I was always calling them up and throwing a fit about their blatant liberalism.

Also, on all the polls they were always over run by liberals...so, for this to be a totally red map, either, AOL's clientele has really changed in the last several years or this is really, really big news for McCain/Palin!

Even Hillary Clinton liked her! Why doesn't Joe Conason?

He doesn't like women. Not that there's anything right with that.

The experience argument is a fraud. Maverick doesn’t need an experienced VP, Black Oblack does.
They keep hammering her and more women will vote out of sympathy. They ain’t likin the personal attacks on their sister.

Who cares if Palin resembles Quayle? Quayle won, damnit!

I remember a guy who was a County Executive, then governor for two years, then Vice President — Spiro Agnew. Was he a token pick, too, Conason?

I wonder what she could do if she had a bit of executive experience behind her

Liberals are such bitter creatures, emotionally immature, hedonistic to a fault, sanctimonious, and last but not least, clueless.

Governor Sarah Palin has more executive experience than Obambi, Biden, Schumer, Hillary, and several other leading Demagogues COMBINED, since none of them have ever run ANYTHING.

In fact, it should be pointed out that if Shrillary had displayed minimal competence in overseeing her own campaign Obambi never should have been able to push her aside.

As for Schumer, Biden, Obambi, and friends, they specialize in hot air.

Agnew??? We really don’t want to go there!

But what is most relevant anyway is to compare Sarah Palin with the string of VP and Presidential candidates the Demagogues have put forward over the past 1/2 century. Many of them had zero executive experience and/or zero foreign affairs experience, and some who did have executive experience such as Bill Clinton, Michael Dukakis, or Jimmy Carter were terrible choices for many other reasons.

Then we have such sterling VP nominees as John Edwards, Geraldine Ferraro (3 insignificant terms as a US Rep. with no accomplishments), Thomas Eagleton (didn’t last long, did he), Sargent Shriver, et al..... the Demagogues cannnot possible withstand an honest and objective comparison of Sarah Palin with so many of their own nominees -— she overshadows all or most of them without even discussing principles, ideals, political views, etc.

"But if Palin's résumé is limited, to put it politely, .."

Yes - it has no decades listening to a black racist minister.
Yes - it has no decades of corrupt Chicago machine politics.
Yes - it has no real estate deals with convicted felons.
Yes - it has no history of drug use.
Yes - it has no history of Muslim training.
Yes - it has no history of lying in an autobiography.
Yes - she spent years running the State of Alaska instead of her mouth.

Jeeeze -- these bastards are really acting worried and silly.
