[Sarah Palin] The Game-Changer
CNN ^ | August 29, 2008 | John P. Avlon

Posted on 08/29/2008 10:47:04 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The secretive selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as John McCain’s vice president is a small masterpiece of tactical and strategic triangulation intended to drive a deeper wedge between Hilary and Obama supporters. With both parties now offering historic campaigns of change, Obama loses exclusive use of that emotional real estate, and Republicans may gain a new edge with swing voters by offering both change and more of the same.

The downside for Republicans is that Palin’s selection will undermine their attacks on Barack Obama’s youth and inexperience. Governor Palin was first elected governor in 2006 – and before that she was mayor of her home town in Alaska, Wasilla, with an operating budget of less than $6 million. But Democrats will have a difficult time attacking her without provoking accusations of sexism – Joe Biden’s attack-dog instincts could backfire badly in the VP debate. That is a variation off the same problem Republicans had with Obama until they stumbled upon using humor with the Achilles heel of the “celebrity” argument.

Governor Palin’s status as a pro-life second amendment soccer mom keeps conservatives happy while offering the only (albeit brief) experience with executive leadership on either ticket.

McCain was grinning the grin of the successful gambler as he unveiled his pick in Dayton today. Palin’s introductory speech hit themes designed to appeal across the political spectrum – saying “this is a moment when principles and political independence matter a lot more than just the party line.”

Fiscal conservatives who felt betrayed by the GOP during the era of Tom Delay found plenty to like in her record of cutting taxes and government spending – she actually refused the federal funding for the infamous Bridge to Nowhere.

Pretty fair & balanced for CNN.

Pretty balanced, but the writer is falling for the MSM's agreed-on position:

The downside for Republicans is that Palin’s selection will undermine their attacks on Barack Obama’s youth and inexperience.

In fact, the MSM's mass-hysterical descent on this issue is showing how much EXPERIENCE this woman has, and will force the MSM to focus more on BARAK'S PAST...which is precisely what we want them to do.

I don't see how anyone can objectively claim that Obama has more experience than Palin. Plus, she doesn't have to carefully edit her "compelling life story" the way Obama does.

McCain's choice is brilliant.

These pundits can't seem to get it through their thick heads that (1) she's been selected as the vice-presidential candidate; and (2) she's got more executive experience than the presidential candidate of the other party.

(albeit brief) experience

2 years opposed to 143 total days in the U.S. Senate. What Obama would accomplish in a week, she'd doiing in one day, meeting with other state governors, and officials from Canada, Russia, and Japan. All governors have experience dealing with foreign dignitaries. We're in a global marketplaec.

No, they we will still attack his youth and inexperience. You can't just go out and say "He's young and inexperienced", you use actual details from his background.

Interesting angle on the executive thing. They may say she doesn't have much experience, but she has more executive experience than anyone on either ticket.

That's right, keep on misunderestimating. Everything good that happens to Republicans is due to dumb luck or cheating.

Well, he has been to Africa. And also that thing in Germany, donchaknow.

That qualifies him right there. (I heard it on CNN)

Besides, McCain and Palin more or less have foreign policy experiences, she just brings so much more that accentuates McCain’s weaknesses elsewhere.

This is why Sarah makes this a game changer. I was right here on FR saying when Fred Thompson dropped out, that “a McCain for President Yard sign will never cast its shadow on my front lawn”, and I would Never put a McCain bumper sticker on the car. Stopping short of saying I would never vote for him.
Well let me tell you, with his performance at Saddelback, his brilliant new style of ads, and now picking Sarah Palin, I am so Pumped I can't be contained.

I used my lunch hour today to find websites to purchase bumper stickers, yard signs, T-shirts, heck right now I could break a taboo of mine and tattoo McCain/Palin 08 on my chest. And yes, I am writing a check to his campaign.

I have read many many other freepers and conservative friends say the same thing. Romney would of been an OK choice, but he would not of gotten this much excitement.

Baloney. Obama's accomplishements in life amount to having written two books about himself. Sarah Palin's experience puts Obama's to shame.

She has more executive experience than all three of the other candidates combined, including McCain.

I heard he went to kindergarten in Indonesia. That was one of his answers when questioned on his foreign policy experiences.

Why would Republicans attack Barack Obama’s youth and inexperience? Barack Obama’s youth and inexperience are virtues; Republicans praise Barack Obama’s youth and inexperience. Personally, I can't say enough good things about Barack Obama’s youth and inexperience.

Wasn’t then Captain (O-6) McCain commander of the largest squadron in the Navy before he retired (turning down a promotion to Rear Admiral?)Oh, and btw, Keith Olbermann, “Rear Admiral” doesn’t mean what you hoped it meant...

She has been Governor five times as long as Obama has been Senator. That’s one business WEEK for every single DAY.

Plus, she got her start in small town America. He got his start in the living room of a terrorist.

Do they really want to keep going down this road?

No $#!t, Sherlock! That's unnecessary; the focus is already shifting to Obambi-bin-Biden's ultraliberalism, uberabortionism, and Chomskian Marxism. All of THAT will put the stake through the vampires' hearts.

“The downside for Republicans is that Palin’s selection will undermine their attacks on Barack Obama’s youth and inexperience.”

They are still attempting to equate the VP position with the position of President.

Obambi will set policy and make the final decisions, not Biden and not Palin. Relative inexperience in the Chief Executive position cannot be remedied over time through some on-the-job training. That’s the luxury of a Vice Presidency.

They are comparing apples to oranges. Nothing makes up for Obambi’s lack of experience. If he wins, there isn’t going to be time for Biden to walk him through a year of tutelage.
Of course, with Biden, there is also the problem that neither Obambi nor Biden have any executive experience. They have no management experience.

McCain has truly checkmated the liberal left. The Palin pick has sent the Dems into a state of utter confusion. Right now, I’m listening to a late-night liberal radio talker, and two libs are about to choke each other debating experience vs change.

To the contrary: nearly every complaint the Dems have against Palin apply to BHO tenfold.

Political judo.
