Could McCain’s VP Pick De-Fang Biden? (Will the chia pet beat up on the girl?)

Could McCain’s VP Pick De-Fang Biden?
by Judson Berger
Saturday, August 30, 2008

John McCain’s game-changing selection of a first-term female governor from Alaska as his running mate poses a challenge for Barack Obama’s own selection for vice president.

The presence of Gov. Sarah Palin, 44, on the campaign trail could serve to de-fang Joe Biden — the longtime Delaware senator who over the past week swiftly assumed the Democratic ticket’s role of attack-dog-in-chief.

“The Obama campaign is going to have to really sort of police Joe Biden’s speech in order to prevent him from saying something that could be read as being insensitive or even sexist,” said Marc Lamont Hill, a Temple University professor of American studies and urban education.

Biden, the most logical pick to spar with Palin on the campaign trail, is known for sometimes stepping over the line with off-color remarks on race and gender.

And with Palin, who on Friday became the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket, Biden could find himself tongue-tied in efforts to attack her resume and social philosophy without seeming insensitive to her accomplishment.

“There may the perception that he’s picking on a girl,” Hill said.

**SNIP**

But Biden’s rhetorical firepower now comes up against a self-described “hockey mom” and mother of five.

He already raised eyebrows when he seemed to mock his wife’s education last Saturday in Springfield, Ill., where he was unveiled as Obama’s vice presidential choice.

“Ladies and gentlemen, my wife, Jill, who you’ll meet soon, is drop-dead gorgeous,” Biden said. “She also has her doctorate degree, which is a problem. But all kidding aside …”

Don't forget the HOWLS of complaint when Rick Lazio invaded Hillary Clinton's space in a debate when the two were running for Senator.

“The Obama campaign is going to have to really sort of police Joe Biden’s speech in order to prevent him from saying something that could be read as being insensitive or even sexist.”

Slow down Joe's mouth? Good luck with all that...

The beauty of the situation is that if, and it's a big IF, Biden can attack her successfully it will be a great help to the Obama-Biden ticket, no doubt about it. Along the big IF comes an even bigger BUT, and that is to go after her and fail will leave his team in much worse shape than it would if they took the high ground.

Sometimes an offense can be tried without too much risk, but much more frequently the daring offense can become a voracious butt-biter. What was the Dirty Harry line about feeling lucky, punk?

Frankly I think it's in the genes of a liberal to be nasty and hateful. I don't think they can resist it. Like the old story about the scorpion who convinced the frog to provide a ride across the river by assuring the frog that if he bites him then he, too, will die. Halfway across the scorpion reverts to type and bites the frog. As they're both going under the frog asks, “Why?”, to which the scorpion replies, “It's my nature!”.

It's the nature of liberals to take the negative approach to any situation they encounter, all the while insisting they are using a positive approach. I don't think they know the difference.

I’d trust Sarah Palin with a rifle. I wouldn’t trust Joe Biden.

Wait until Authentic Sarah goes head to head with Pinnochio Joe. The we will know who has “gravitas”. And it won’t be Pinnochio. Hallelujah!

Biden will throw a lot of Washington insider jargon at her.

She ought to talk about making moose burgers in response.

There will be a totally different dynamic here---don't ever expect the libs to side with OUR "girl"---but Palin is obviously smart enough and confident enough to pull off a much different coup in the debate, but she NEEDS TO SAVE THIS AMMO FOR THE DEBATE.

It will be a reverse "you're-no-Jack-Kennedy" thing. Biden will begin by questioning her experience. She then needs to go on offense, telling him HE's the inexperienced one, that HE has never overseen a budget for a state of 600,000 people, that HE has never had to fire people, that HE has never had to resist the full power of the feds trying to 'give away" a bridge to nowhere; and that HE isn't the commander in chief of a national guard that just happens to patrol the border with Russia, who at present has not been acting much like an ally (she'll have to be careful not to call them an "enemy" or "dangerous.")

In short, in a few sentences she can elevate herself to FAR more experience than the entire Dem ticket (and McCain too, although I doubt Biden would mention that).

“There may the perception that he’s picking on a girl,” Hill said.

Great--the nominee for Vice President of the United States is relying on the "picking on a girl" card? I'm sure foreign heads of state will take it easy on her if she's elected. I never thought conservatives would buy into identity politics but judging by all of the "look how cute she is" posts on FR I've been proven wrong. I thought/hoped we learned our lesson with Katherine Harris. This ain't American Idol folks!

This is the closest Old Joe has ever gotten to the Grail. He’ll pick on her, you can take that to the bank.

The question, though, will be whether, when he picks on her, he’s fair or not.

What’s the definition of fair, you ask?

Each voter will decide that for himself or herself every time he does it.

This is simply wrong. The media will be in full force against Governor Palin. They will allow Biden to get away with anything he wants. She, on the other hand, will have to go into the coliseum with her hands tied.

Governor Palin's simply going to have to do a Dick Cheney on him. She's going to have to expect a full-fledged, no holds battle, with her opponent allowed to kick and bite.

Dick Cheney, from another frontier state, took aim and shot the enemy confronting him. No muss, no fuss. He killed him dead.

I think it's very telling to look closely at the expressions of the people who are on the stage with McCain and Palin yesterday compared to those on a stage with Obama and Biden. Maybe I put too much stock in such things, but darn it the Republicans just look like a happier group of people. Liberals, even when they're happy, tend to look like they're sucking on a lemon. We have some in our church and you wonder with every encounter how anyone who is child of God, someone whose soul is assured of an eternity with their Creator, can look so unhappy. Even when they laugh they look like they're in pain. Sad.

Like the scorpion said, “It's my nature!”

Heres proof that Sarah Palin isn’t as wet behind the ears as Odumbo is. Not only does this sight contain tons of info on Sarah there are videos of round table discussions of the Alaska incumbent governor and another candidate. After watching Sarah speak unscripted, clear, concise, and to the point, ask yourself how many uh uh uh’s you have to suffer through listening to an Odumbo response.

Notice how during the second video she has to fight her way into the conversation, being brushed aside like a Ron Paul dimwit who shouldn’t even be there.

I think she’ll be able to handle herself quite well against Biden.

You could duct tape his mouth shut and you still won't prevent him from sticking his foot in it.
