Palin Makes Good First Impression: Is Viewed More Favorably than Biden (Rassmussen)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 8/30/2008 | n/a

Sarah Palin has made a good first impression. Before being named as John McCain’s running mate, 67% of voters didn’t know enough about the Alaska governor to have an opinion. After her debut in Dayton and a rush of media coverage, a new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 53% now have a favorable opinion of Palin while just 26% offer a less flattering assessment.

Palin earns positive reviews from 78% of Republicans, 26% of Democrats and 63% of unaffiliated voters. Obviously, these numbers will be subject to change as voters learn more about her in the coming weeks. Among all voters, 29% have a Very Favorable opinion of Palin while 9% hold a Very Unfavorable view.

By way of comparison, on the day he was selected as Barack Obama’s running mate, Delaware Senator Joseph Biden was viewed favorably by 43% of voters.

We don’t want to peak too early as, in retrospect, both Obama and Clinton did.

lol...No doubt. I still can’t belive he picked Biden. What a Blowhard. I remember watching the Senate hearings and this guy was a serious jerk ok. I mean complete A-hole. Seriously, I think Obamas pick for VP actually hurt instead of helped him. If he was politcally smart he would just picked Hillary and let both sides politcal sides duke it out. Instead he picked a Jerk Washington Insider who got a measly 2% of the vote when he ran for the nomination. Great pick there Obama.

Great pick there Obama.

I have this nagging feeling it ain't over yet. Biden is campaigning drunk, there are more and more stories about his health, and now his son is in big trouble. Bambi may just pull the plug on Biden (pun intended) and have a do-over.

If Biden act like a jerk in public, imagine how he acts in private and when the cameras are not around.

It’s a bright early October morning on Capitol Hill. Joe Biden is bounding up the steps of the Russell Senate Office Building, wearing his trademark grin. As he makes for the door, he is met by a group of airline pilots and flight attendants looking vaguely heroic in their navy-blue uniforms and wing-shaped pins. A blandly handsome man in a pilot’s cap steps forward and asks Biden to help pass emergency benefits for laid-off airline workers. Biden nods as the men and women cluster around him with fawning smiles. Then he speaks. “I hope you will support my work on Amtrak as much as I have supported you,” he begins. (Biden rides Amtrak to work every day and is obsessed with the railroad.) “If not, I will screw you badly.”

A dozen faces fall in unison as Biden lectures on. “You’ve not been good to me. You’re also damn selfish. You better listen to me...” It goes on like this for a couple of minutes. Strangely, Biden keeps grinning—even fraternally slapping the stunned man’s shoulder a couple of times. When we finally head into the building, Biden’s communications director, Norm Kurz, turns to me. “What you just witnessed is classic Senator Biden.”

I liked Dan Quayle, and I thought he came off pretty sharp in one on one sessions. But in speeches before a crowd — he had the deer in the headlights look about him. A shame, I thought he was a good Senator and was a good government leader — but he was quickly turned into a caricature by the media — and there was nothing he good do about his ‘deer in the headlights’ problem (at least not in the two or three speeches/debates that I watched)...
