Palin electrifies conservative base
Politico ^ | 8/31/2008 | Jonathan Martin

The selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate has electrified conservative activists, providing a boost of energy to the GOP nominee-in-waiting from a key constituency that had been previously had been lukewarm – at best – about him. By tapping the anti-abortion and pro-gun Alaska governor just ahead of his convention, which is set to start here Monday, McCain hasn’t just won approval from a skeptical Republican base – he’s ignited a wave of elation and emotion that has led some grassroots activists to weep with joy.

Serious questions remain about McCain’s pick – exactly how much he knows about her and her positions, past and present, on key issues. But for the worker bee core of the party that is essential to any Republican victory there are no doubts.

“I woke up and my email was just going crazy,” said Charmaine Yoest, head of the legislative arm of Americans United for Life and a former top official in Mike Huckabee’s presidential campaign. “And then when it was announced — it was like you couldn’t breathe.”

The media elite – as well as elite members of the GOP consulting community – have all but mocked Palin as a former smalltown mayor with zero Washington experience. But that view of her totally misses the cultural resonance she carries to crucial Republican power centers and could not be more at odds with the jubilation felt among true believers that one of their own is on the ticket.

Palin, say conservative activists, has instantly changed how they feel about McCain’s campaign and spurred them to go to work for the Republican ticket.

First, though, they’re expressing their newfound fondness for McCain with their checkbooks. Since tapping Palin, the campaign has raised nearly $7 million online, according to McCain aides.

I gave him money, yesterday, for the first time.

She slayed the corrupt and gave excess tax money back to the people.

As a mother of 5, wife of a hard working blue collar man and having son in the military, she has “skin” in the game.

We love Sarah, the Warrior Princess!

A black lady who is a good friend of mine (and married to a white guy who is also a good friend), votes mostly Pubbie, but has been known to go to “the other side” on occasion. She is all revved up about Sarah Palin being on the McCain ticket! She doesn’t like McCain much, but Obama scares her.

After weeks of throwing out McCain mailers without opening, I gave a hundred yesterday.

The bile coming from the left is already hip high and it’s only starting. They will attempt to destroy Palin and her family. Conservatives have to hit back hard. The Obamistas are a threat to America and must be stopped.

““Palin could play strong in the sporting states like Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania, depending on how they use her,” he said. “Most pundits will underestimate her appeal in these key areas because they don’t know her and they are unfamiliar with the sporting scene. But among sportsmen, authenticity counts and Palin’s got that and then some.””

Don’t forget Minnesota! If you want to find a state with hockey moms who hunt and snowmobile, that’s your place. Nearly everyone in that state is an outdoors-type. I think the Palin pick could definitely shift Minnesota red.

As my six year old granddaughter would say, "Now that's what I'm talking about!"

From what I recall, she's the mother of five well fed children. No need for pant suits for her.

That John McCain does have a good eye for women.

And talk about eyes. WOW!

MSM will try to derail Palin with the lack of experience mantra, but somehow they are scared that McCain actually put someone on the ticket that the general public understands is one of us. We raise families, struggle to pay bills, are ever more concerned about our voice being heard by our politicians and don’t feel like our representaion is best served by a lawyer headed off to congress for a second carreer. They will understand when she has the base energized in this country as election day approaches. You see we ‘believe’ she will make a difference. She is the real deal. Finally, I was one of those who had given up on the Republican Party and McCain, but I was jumping up and down and immediately got on the web site and donated....the MSM knows what’s happening....and it scares them...

We are now going to send checks to McCain. Finally, we have something real and not phony and something we can believe and trust within the Repub. party.

she doesn’t need experience. All she has to say is “yes sir” when he tells her to sell his amnesty plan to Rush

You are not voting, you are copping out. There are two candidates. The others are but pretenders.

It is hard to make a decision between the real candidates, but to not do so is the easy course of shirking a hard decision.

Can you still give money? I know there was some kind of deadline but our budget decides when and how much to give.
