McCain did know, and he took the calculated risk that this won’t matter to a majority of voters (for reasons we’ve been discussing all day). One fact the MSM is ignoring, Bristol’s situation is exactly identical to what millions of other families have had to face, both publicly and privately. I have a feeling that socially conservative, family oriented Reagan democrats in PA, OH, MI, WS, IA, NH and IN will especially relate to Bristol and the Palin family’s news. The MSM and the vile elitist left are pushing this too hard, and I for one think it’s going to backfire on them, especially with women across the board, with the exception of left wing, extremist, pro-abortion, anti-family, cultural elitist, wine sipping, cheese eating liberal women.
What is being attacked is Sarah’s abstinence only stance. Clearly Bristol wasn’t obstinate. Dems will use this to push more SEX EDUCATION with the hope of more pregancies and kids having more sex and hopefully dependent on them for the rest of their life.

Or... one could say that this was the daughter's choice, and hopefully SHE didn't do it to deny her mother the opportunity of a lifetime. But then, I guess I'm just not trying to put the worst possible spin on it, as you appear to be.

Palin's name was first mentioned months ago, I cannot imagine that they haven't discussed this as a family and Sarah Palin does not seem like the type of person who would go through with this without the total support of her family.
This also tells us that if the daughter of a social conservative can come out as being pregnant before marriage, even if she is getting married, there’s no longer any shame whatsoever to this.
How do you know that Bristol didn't feel shame? Are you disagreeing with her decision to keep the baby? Obviously, she should have abstained from sex, but "should have" doesn't really help in real-life situations.

When she speaks I hope she mentions how thrilled she is to be a grandmother soon and can’t wait to welcome her grandchild into the world, that it is a blessing, etc. etc. It will die down soon if she or McCain don’t talk about it.

If Sarah Palin was a hardbitten Hillary type, desperate for her moment of fame or power, this young daughter would have been whisked into an abortion clinic faster than a speeding bullet!

If the girl is 5 months along, the next mention of this in the media should be between Christmas and New Years Day, when the Vice President Elect and her family welcome a new addition to the family. It will make a great holiday story.

We saw a MAN get a pass on cheating on his wife and getting his mistress pregnant...and the media kept it hush hush...now we see a young woman being maligned and judged by satan’s spawn.... guess there is truly a double standard.

It will fizzle in less then 48 hours. However, one has to feel really bad for Bristol...to have your name plastered all over every main stream media nightly news broadcast is sickening.
After scanning through the nightly news, I have a lot of respect for Bristol, and even less respect for the main stream news then I had before (which wasn’t much). Pray that she stays strong and she really enjoys the precious new life she will help bring into the world.

That’s what I was thinking.
There’s been a lot of criticism for not using birth control, but my ex-husband and I got pregnant with Down Syndrome identical twin daughters (Rachel and Rebecca) and we used a condom. I was 34 years old.
It may play in her favor. Thousands of families have been in the same predicament and it might endear Sarah to them because of this.
What can the democrats say that will not come back to bite them in the butt? At least Obama has it right, it is “off limits.”
Let’s hope it leads to her garnering record viewership (beating out Obama) for her speech this week, at which opportunity she wows the country for being the likeable and formidable speaker that she is.
Then let the issue be buried and the campaign continue.
