Palin's Pregnancy Problem
Washington Post ^ | 1 Sep 2008 | Sally Quinn

Posted on 09/01/2008 4:38:24 PM PDT by Mr Rogers

My first reaction was shock. Then anger. John McCain chose a running mate simply because she is a woman and one who appealed to the Republican's conservative evangelical base. Now, with news that Palin's 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant, McCain's pick may not even find support among "family values" voters...This may be a hard one for the Republican conservative family-values crowd to swallow. Of course, this can happen in any family. But it must certainly raise the question among the evangelical base about whether Sarah Palin has been enough of a hands-on mother.

They talked about Sally's screed on Brit Hume tonight. Fred Barnes said she obviously knows nothing about Christianity or she would know it's about forgiveness etc.

Sally Quinn - Arrogance on display

Quinn is married to Benjamin C. Bradlee, the former editor of the Washington Post, her former boss. Quinn and Bradlee have one child, [Josiah] Quinn Crowninshield Bradlee who was born in 1982 when she was 41. They have acknowledged that he was born with velo-cardio-facial syndrome (cleft palate).

Quinn’s condemnation of Bill Clinton’s adultery rang hollow coming from someone who broke up the marriage of her boss Ben Bradlee and then went on to marry Bradlee herself.

Quinn began as a reporter for the Washington Post with very little experience: reportedly called by Ben Bradlee after a report of her pajama party in celebration of the election to congress of Barry Goldwater, Jr.

In August 1973, Quinn tried her hand at television, joining CBS News reporter Hughes Rudd as co-anchors of the CBS Morning News. The show’s anchoring team was its first disaster since debuting in 1963 — ninety minutes before her television debut on August 6, 1973, Quinn, who never reported for television before, collapsed while trying to fight the flu. The next day, she was forced to anchor solo when Rudd’s mother died. Quinn’s ad libs during the show’s first week also tended toward the inappropriate — on one episode, following a report on the children of California migrant farm workers, she quipped that child labor “was how I felt when my mother and father made me clean up my room.” Quinn left the CBS Morning News after the February 1, 1974 telecast.

Quinn had a long-standing animus for the Clintons, possibly due to a perceived snub by First Lady Hillary Clinton, who declined a party invitation from Quinn.

Quinn wrote an op-ed piece published in the Washington Post in which she complimented herself at length for not noticing the color of his skin.

“I realized that when I look at him, I don’t see a person of color. I see a really smart, appealing, thoughtful person.”

In June 2008, the Catholic League issued a press release highly critical of Quinn for taking communion at the funeral mass for journalist Tim Russert. In an On Faith blog posting on the Washington Post website, Quinn — who is not a Catholic — wrote that she was “determined to take [communion] for Tim, transubstantiation notwithstanding” and that she “had a slightly nauseated sensation” after taking it.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded that “Quinn’s statement not only reeks of narcissism, it shows a profound disrespect for Catholics and the beliefs they hold dear.” Since the incident, Quinn’s judgment as moderator of On Faith has come under question by media commentators including columnist Ramesh Ponnuru, who wrote that “if [Quinn] does not understand the affront she gave then perhaps regularly blogging about religion for a major news outlet is not the right job for her.”

If Sally really believes what she wrote she’s dumber than a box of rocks.

She spent years writing for the gossip section of the Washington Post. Does that explain it?

Sally Quinn is clueless....the entire mainstream press is clueless.

It is absurd and ridiculous how anxious the main stream press is to jump all over a 17 year old girl who is supposed to be ‘off limits from the press’ because of ‘family privacy’ yet refuses to investigate or even mention Obama’s connections to Frank Davis, Mike Klonsky, William Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, Tonny Rezko....etc

Sally Quinn, obviously doesn’t know many evangelicals.
*********************************************************
Or real families for that matter... Earth to Sally! Kids make mistakes , if it hasn’t happened in your immediate family I know it’s happened to one of your close relatives.. The kids are taking responsibility for the new life they created and are going to be a family (with the parents help on both sides) ... I for one am not disturbed by this AT ALL and instead see another example of how real adult people handle problems (even if they’re still teens). Good for them. Based on how solid Sarah appears to be I’m sure the kid will make it through the first few years of marriage just fine ,, if instead Sarah and Todd were flakes I’d be hoping the child would be adopted out as the chances of the teens marriage surviving would be much lower..

“I thought this was going to be a dull campaign and election. This will probably end up being the most fun election in my lifetime.”

I agree. This campaign is like a soap opera - on both sides.

Evangelical women are going to vote against their conscience by voting for a mother of five, pro-life conservative, church going, God fearing women as opposed to voting for a pro death, Marxist with a buffoon as a VP pick ???

Hysterical, isn't it? "Oh, the Palins' teenage daughter is pregnant, and they didn't pay for their fishing license on time! Why, I'll just vote for the Marxist Death-Eater then ... six of one, half a dozen of the other ..."

Barbara Bush once told me that her husband had been a congressman, UN ambassador, ambassador to China, and head of the CIA and they thought they were prepared for the vice presidency (under President Reagan). But she said nothing can prepare you for the criticism and scrutiny of being in the White House. Sarah Palin is not prepared for that.

LOL! So if nothing can prepare you how can Sarah Palin not be prepared? This is suppose to make the case for voting against McCain/Palin? If anything it makes it stronger. The dims have a candidate for President with even less experience than the one we have for Vice President.

I noticed one of the comments posted in response to Quinn’s diatribe described her as a “husband stealer”. Does anybody know what this is about?

Sally had an affair with Ben Bradlee when he was stilll married, then became the 3rd Mrs Bradlee. Thus she obtained a career the old fashioned way- she slept her way to the top.

Her life is spent in a social cesspool with dysfunctional hoi polloi and wannabe hoi polloi, people she then uses as gossip fodder in her “journalistic” commentary.

Maybe her mama simply didn't spend enough hands-on time with her to teach her values.

I've read she is a declared agnostic. She caused a furor by taking Catholic communion at the mass for Tim Russert so as “to feel closer to Tim”.

Now she has the effrontery to show faux distress over the moral implications of a pregnant 17 yr old girl with two loving parents and a fiance.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. It’s a combo of a Lifetime Movie, Dr. Phil and Jerry Springer!

What cr*p. Shock and anger. So Ms. Quinn has just discovered that the teenage children of conservative parents sometimes have sexual relations! People like Ms. Quinn have been passing out condoms like candy and telling kids that they can openly express their sexual feelings - but now she’s shocked!

She reminds me of Capt. Renault in “Casablanca.” Cr*p.

Amen! As a matter of fact, I wrote an article on it on my blog page just a couple of days ago.

I’m actually surprised Huckabee hasn’t chimed in yet to trash the Palin’s. This would be right up his alley.

I wasnt't a supporter of Huckabee for President, but what you said is baloney. You know as much about evangelicals as Sally Quinn does.

I think you misunderstand Sally. Here’s what she said:

“My first reaction was shock. Then anger.”

She’s one of those liberals who are shocked and angered at conservative Republicans when they do things that she would consider admirable if they were Democrats.

I love what’s happening now in regards to Palin as a mother. Our supposedly enlightened, feminist liberal overlords are saying to Sarah Pailin: “Get your female butt back in the kitchen where it belongs!”
