Ohio Superintendent Caught Using Title "Doctor" Years Before Receiving Doctorate Degree.
Education Credential Watch ^ | 9/1/2008 | Education Credential Watch

Franklin County Ohio, School Superintendent, Bart Anderson, was hand-signing school documents that stated "Dr. Bart Anderson" under the signature and on the letterhead for years before he received a doctorate degree in 2006.

Education Credential Watch recently obtained evidence of this alleged fraudulent representation. Will Ohio authorities initiate a criminal investigation of Bart Anderson as he continues in his position with a level of influence over the education of over 210,000 central-Ohio students

Uh, so? I distinctly remember Democrats during the Clinton impeachment hearings having the words “Constitutional Scholar” appear under their images. Cinthia Mckinney? I wanted to put that phrase on a tree stump in my yard.

If Bart is a Democrat, it’s okay, right?

Having been in an EdD program at a respected university for a short time, I left in disgust because of its shallowness and lack of real scholarship compared to a true PhD program.

Contrast that with the Low Brass professor at the university I graduated from... He had been working on his Doctoral degree for quite some time. When he submitted his dissertation, we started calling him “Doctor” - and he chastised us for it - saying that he didn’t earn it until it was finalized. He proudly wore the title after he was awarded the degree.

I know a fellow who has been a PhD candidate for 14 years (all but dissertation) who puts his unearned PhD on his resume, although I think he may qualify it by putting “May 2009” after it and changing the expected date every so often. The last time I saw his resume, I think it said “May 2004.” At this point, I doubt very much that he will ever get the degree, and it’s not helping him that his staunchest supporters in his department are dying off, and the newer people don’t know him from Adam.

I’ve been told that this is the way they do resumes in academia. I would throw such a resume straight into the trash if he applied for a job with me.

his only mistake was he didn’t get one of the phony advance degrees that WVU has been handing out.

Small people need to inflate themselves in order to feel good about themselves.

I don't think so, but all the EdD's I know call themselves that. I think it's a sign of insecurity. I also don't call PhDs Dr., but rather "Professor."

When I was in high school and working my first job, my store had a particularly bitchy, rude customer who was a professor at the local college. She insisted on being called "Dr. Jane Doe," and even had it printed on her checks. I was really underwhelmed when I found out that her doctorate was in home economics. I'm pretty sure that my late Grandma and most of her contemporaries had a lot more home ec knowledge than this gal did.
