The first lady and her potential successor received loud and extended applause from delegates, but both were careful to avoid any language that could be construed as political.

“When such events happen, we’re reminded that first we are all Americans,” said Bush, “and that our shared America ideals will always transcend political parties and partisanship.”

video was shown during the brief session featuring four of the five Gulf Coast governors: Texas’ Rick Perry, Alabama’s Bob Riley, Mississippi’s Haley Barbour and Florida’s Charlie Crist.

All stressed what they were doing to respond to the storm and also asked Americans to lend a hand.

Perry, sporting jeans and a work shirt while standing in front of a Texas Air National Guard supply plane, did note to the Republicans that it was their governors who were leading the effort.

“You’re seeing Republican governors in Republican states doing a fabulous job taking care of the citizens,” Perry said.

I don't want Joe Lieberman to be VP pick, but we lose opportunity to have him speaking on the 1st day. Hopefully they re-schedule him, say, on Thursday. Let him introduce McCain. After all, I'm not sure whether Ridge can bring additional vote by introducing McCain.

Sarah is scheduled to speak tomorrow (Wednesday) evening.
