He did OK for himself under the circumstances. It just wasn't possible to say it was a bad speech. The paragraph 1, "Her speech exceeded expectations" is about as thin a compliment as you can give. Then, he managed to get to he negative stuff quickly by paragraph 3. Don't lose any sleep worrying about his job prospects.
They will be staggering around tomorrow like a mule hit between the eyes with a 2x4. But they will not be able to hide what they saw.
