Last night's rather low-key Convention speech by John McCain was hugely overshadowed by Sarah Palin's virtuoso performance the evening before. It did however succeed in reinforcing the message that the Senator from Arizona is a force to be reckoned with on national security issues in an increasingly dangerous world, and that his record as a war hero gives him far greater credibility as commander in chief than his Democrat opponent.
Perhaps the most important element of the speech related not to the routine "kitchen table" issues that dominated large swathes of it, from government spending to education reform, but his words of warning to Moscow in the wake of the brutal Russian invasion of Georgia. While promising against a return to the days of the Cold War, he stated unequivocally that Russia's actions posed a direct threat to U.S. security. Using strong language that the Bush Administration has largely shied away from over the past eight years in relation to Russia, McCain bluntly declared that "we can't turn a blind eye to aggression and international lawlessness that threatens the peace and stability of the world and the security of the American people."
There can be little doubt that if McCain is elected President in November the United States will embark upon a far more forceful and proactive approach aimed at halting Russian aggression in the Caucasus and the former Soviet Empire.

Well stated.
> John McCain’s warning to Russia
“Don’t make me come over there!”
And what about China?
(crickets)
China has its only invasion issues.
Point well made.
