"Lifelong Catholic?" (SF mayor plans to help launch drive against Save Marriage Initiative)
California Catholic Daily ^ | September 5, 2008 | staff

San Francisco’s “Catholic” mayor will join tomorrow in the official launching of the “No on 8 – Equality for All Campaign” at the old Tower Records store on Market Street.

In early January, on the occasion of his inauguration to a second term, Mayor Gavin Newsom and his family attended a Mass at the historic Mission Dolores Basilica. And to this day he continues to describe himself as Catholic.

Newsom, said to have his eyes on the governorship, will be acting in open defiance of California’s bishops, who have officially endorsed Proposition 8 and have urged Catholics to support it.

But Newsom is no stranger to defiance of Church teachings or to thumbing his nose at prelates. It was Newsom who provoked a constitutional crisis in 2004 by granting marriage licenses to 4,000 same-sex couples in a case that eventually led to the May 15 California Supreme Court decision upholding same-sex marriages. Proposition 8 would undo that 4-3 ruling by amending the state constitution.

In 2006, the divorced San Francisco mayor, who describes himself as a “lifelong Catholic,” abruptly cancelled a trip to Rome for the installation of former San Francisco Archbishop William Levada as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Newsom said at the time that he decided to boycott Levada’s installation in protest over the Church’s prohibition on homosexuals adopting children.

In a February 2008 interview with The Santa Clara, the magazine of his Jesuit-run alma mater, Santa Clara University, Newsom said he “still has tremendous admiration for the Church and very strong faith.”

Why don’t Newsom and Pelosi and the rest of the phony Catholics get together and start their own church? Or just come out of the closet as the pagans they already are. And stop confusing the public about what a Roman Catholic really is.

It’s not often that I feel as though my vote will have a state-wide impact here on the loony left coast, but you can bet your bippy that I’ll be there to vote for Prop-8 on election day.

...and another thing not to take action upon. Heck, he’ll probably go down to Tower Records himself. After all, this is the Archbishop that gave Communion to one of the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” who presented himself in full drag.

So when is the Roman Catholic church going to start bouncing open heretics from their midst? We are all sinners, and the church is open to all -- but a 'member' can't be in open defiance to the church's core beliefs, and still be a 'member' of the body.

So how exactly did Peter handle liars who tried to claim membership in his church?

Acts 5
3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.
8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.
9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.
10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

Being a 'member' of the body of Christ is a serious commitment. We should all work out our own salvation with fear and trembling lest we are found to be liars. The Roman church does not do Mr. Newsom, and heretics like himself, a favor by pretending he is a 'member in good standing'.

I think it’s getting to be the time to just quit voting for any politician who goes against Gods laws....The worst of these seem to be from the Catholic Church (Pelosi,Kennedy,Leahy, Biden, to name just a view, because they advertise their Catholicity, yet here they are receiving the Blessed Sacrament in front of millions of people and giving scandal at the same time....These are truly bad people, yet they are adulated by many in the Catholic Church, including bishops and priests.....To me it’s mind boggling!
I wonder how many of these hypocritacl bishops and priests “Do” lunch with the likes of a Nancy Pelosi or a Joe Biden, in order just to be seen with them...Sickning!!!

“And still Newsom will be accepted in Catholic Church this Sunday.

First, I “think” you meant to say “barred” from attending. LOL

But, everyone is welcome...remember, as Christians, we are supposed to hate the sin and love the sinner...

As long as anyone has a breath in their body; they have an opportunity to confess their sins, ask God for forgiveness, repent and save their soul.

And isn’t that what Jesus wants for us all.

Well, one reason that the worse seem to be Catholic is that most other Christian denominations don’t have such a firm teaching on abortion or Eucharist, for that matter. So it almost necesarily will be Catholics because the waters are muddy on many non-Catholic Christian teachings. In Catholicism the teaching is very, very clear and when you oppose it you oppose it willingly.

“hypocritacl bishops and priests?”

First, I think you meant “hypocritical”...

And excuse me, but are you a Catholic?

You’re pretty quick to label priests & bishops “hypocritical?”
Just who died and made you “judge & jury?”

the rest of your post is so ridiculous, I won’t even dignify it with a response...

sheeeeeeeeeeesh...
