LOS ANGELES, Sept 5 (Reuters) - A record 38.9 million U.S. TV viewers watched John McCain accept the Republican nomination for president on Thursday, beating the record set last week by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, Nielsen Media Research reported.

Obama had an average 38.4 million viewers watching his speech accepting the nomination for his party last week.

McCain's tally also was higher than the 37.2 million Americans who tuned in to hear Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's speech on Wednesday.

"I see a big fat lady warming up her pipes....about to take her place on the stage ..."

I still don't think Obama will drop Biden for Hillary.... Oh you were speaking of someone else who might fit that description?

I don’t know..... I think a lot of people will vote for Obama simply because of the historical aspect of the election. They want to vote for the first black man ever to be nominated by a major party. How many thousands of people stood in line for many hours just to acquire the 1st iPod? Same for the iPhone. Being “first” on any thing has its appeal for some people.

If we want McCain & Sarah to win, we have to work very hard to ensure the victory.

“Considering that the media gave less attention to the RNC than the DNC (by about 40% less airtime), I am very surprised of these numbers. I actually don’t think the polls are as close as they appear. I think the media is driving the polls to keep people’s attention on a close race. I will predict now, this won’t be near as close as the media is predicting. I am thinking Mondale for some reason...”

That would be nice.

I think the media is running scared now (as evidenced by the vicious attacks against Sarah Palin).

Heh, if Hillary wants an empty slot to run in come 2012, it's not like she can actually help him any...

Barry chose to avoid the knife in the back, but now he has to deal with the other consequences.

Like unemployment...*snicker*

It worked out brilliantly going right after the football game.

That game was boring. I’m glad football is back, but that was a snoozer.

That was definitely planned. McCain would have waited until the game was over even if it went to OT.

Big numbers and without a doubt running on the momentum of Sarah Palin.

today my husband and i were talking with our electrician... a black man who is a fellow Christian and goes to our church... he owns his own small business and is doing very well... lives in a beautiful 5,000+ square foot custom built home on acreage... is not hurting financially... he told us today that he is voting for Obama... i said i was voting Sarah Palin... my husband said we are prolife and could only vote for McCain and could never vote for Obama... the electrician said, "i'm voting for Obama... i know as a Christian it's... " and he trailed off and didn't finish his sentence...

Obama just leaves me cold. He’s so empty. Why do so many Americans like him?

It is unfortunate BET did not air the republican convention. Even Juan Williams admitted that McCain’s phrase about the inner city schools controlled by the Democrats are today’s form of slavery resonated with him.

Of course, the Democrats and BET cannot air Republican views to their Black constituents or those oppressed folks just might leave the Democrat plantation!!!!!
