Despite making well over $1,000,000 in family income from 2000 to 2004, the Obamas listed less than $11,000 in charitable contributions for all five years combined

If you think the Obamas just didn't want to claim their legal deductions, they had no problem in 2005 and 2006. Also note that the year Obama became senator his income jumped 700% from $200,000 to over $1.6 MILLION.

No wonder Rev Jeremiah Wright doesn't have anything good to say about Obama, HE DIDN'T EVEN TITHE!

Hundreds of millions worldwide survive on about a dollar a day.

Nobody survives on a dollar a month. That would be three cents a day. Even in Kenya, you can't eat on that.

I think they misinterpreted the article. I read it as he pays $1 a month for rent of the hut. That doesn’t mean that’s how much he earns, just all he pays in rent. Of course he probably doesn’t make much more than that.

You are missing the point. Obama lives in luxury and preaches about how WE should help the poor yet can’t even be bothered to send his half brother a few bucks.

This is silly. We believe that people can do what they want with their money... and giving him grief over not giving 'enough' goes against that...

Its almost like the dems giving Palin and McCain grief over family value stuff that the dems don't practice themselves.

I personally give even less than Obama's lowest amounts to charities. .. because I don't trust non profits AT ALL. I give my money to family and friends who are in need .. and they aren't tax deductable orgs. I will NEVER give much money to ANY non profit. I have no desire to watch my cash used to jet non profit execs around in first class or pay for the other BS that most of them do.

A liberal would give George Obama a few bucks and tell him to come back when he needed more. A conservative would find out what George Obama was interested in and help him figure out a way to make a living doing it.

That is a cop out. You apparently haven’t investigated many charitable organizations. For example, the Salvation Army uses less than 15% of the money the take in for overhead and NOBODY at the SA is a rich executive. There are also many homeless shelters in larger cities that refuse government money and do an excellent job of getting people back up on their feet.

If don’t want to give to worthy causes, don’t try to blame others’ failings.

Besides, this article is about the way liberals think that generosity begins by taking the money out of other people’s wallets.

Religious conservatives are more generous than secular liberals. To see that BHO is not generous undercuts his claim to be a Christian. I think that is useful info.

Ok, you got me on The Salvation Army. They do great work. I actually do give to them on a regular basis... cash and non cash donations.

But United Way and most of the other large charities are worthless.

Regardless I know enough folks personally that need my help to bother giving much to charities.

As for the article... we really don't have a good gauge on what Obama 'really' gives out. Like me, he may be giving to people that aren't tax deductible orgs. Or not, but I still don't want to go down the road of targeting our opponents with such stuff when we are up in arms about spurious charges against our candidates. Credibility...

It would make a great ad (and maybe we will do it if we have the time): Obama doesn’t even throw his brother a couple of bucks, and the McCain’s adopt a third world girl with a cleft palette and bring her to America. Kind of puts a big dent in the Jesus comparisons, huh?
