I dont see how conservatism can continue being a dominant force in the future.Free markets, free peoples, and free societies will win out, in the long run, because they simply work so much better than all the alternatives.
The question isn't what will win in the long run, but of how painful will the process be of getting there.
Per C.S. Cherryh’s book, “In Conquest Born”, there was a quote that resonated with me. “Fertile creatures breed, infertile creatures do not. And we, self made gods, have chosen to seek to break that natural law.”
A society had bred/engineered itself to perfection, at the cost of its fertility. And because they had weeded out the sick, the weak, anything that wasn’t “perfect”, they suffered sterility, miscarriage, and dangerous childbirth. And because of their perfection, they were dangerously vulnerable to what was their equivalent of the common cold.
Moral of the story: what you think is perfect is merely what you think it is, not what nature agrees with. And building up to your pinnacle of perfection may be piling on the failings, too.
“It seems I read or heard somewhere that about half of the children under the age of five in the U.S. are minority children. If conservatives cant start making inroads in the minority communities I dont see how conservatism can continue being a dominant force in the future.”
Well, it depends what you mean by “conservative.” If you mean living an ethic that embraces life, I don’t think you’re going to have to worry. If you mean the finer points of free market conservative theory, then I think it’s going to be a long row to hoe.
There’s a very obvious way to address the problem: have more children and raise them well. Repeat as necessary.
Is it any wonder that the liberals want open borders to fill their ranks with grateful welfare-dependent immigrants ?
I’ve sent McCain money finally, after he came through with a Conservative running mate, but I haven’t forgotten McCain-Kennedy Amnesty.
I’ve also sent him a note that the first, non-negotiable element of any immigration reform be the PERMANENT ineligibility of any immigrant or their children from any public assistance. It seems only fair — when everybody else’s grandparents came to America, there WAS NO public assistance.
“Propagating the human race with six (count ‘em) fabulous children!”
Congratulations. As the old lawyer joke goes: a good start. :-)
“All children are blessings from God and the materialistic libs don’t know what they are missing.”
Yup. Children are a much more important investment in the future than your 401(k).
“Is it possible to correct the leftward political tilt of the country by increasing the fertility of traditional family units?”
Ja!
And if liberals enact confiscatory taxes because you dared invest your own money, they are WAY more reliable for retirement, too.
Good for you!
It can be challenging at times, but if you stick with it, you can give your kids an education that the public school system never could.
Dad voted Republican because that's the way his folks voted. My grandparents (both sides) were old school black folks from the deep south.
Mom voted Democrat. She was the black sheep child of her family, and went against the grain.
I wouldn't say that either of them were avowed liberals, but they were of that age group that was just coming of age during the Civil Rights era, and were being affected at their core by the events of the time. But, I don't think that either of them were rabidly political in those days.
I think that more of us kids would have wound up as Republicans if we hadn't spent our teen years in the black community, as opposed to the mixed military community we were born into.
It's pretty hard not to wind up as a liberal if you're raised in a solidly liberal Democrat community. Most folks aren't able to shake that subtle indoctrination until they're well into their maturity, if at all.
“And if liberals enact confiscatory taxes because you dared invest your own money, they are WAY more reliable for retirement, too.”
I fear that we might find that out the hard way.
“My religious, pretty conservative girlfriend (hopefully fiance within a year) doesn’t want kids.”
(chuckle).
People change.
So you are not going to let your kids watch TV, go to movies, or attend college?
