Can't You Feel Hillary's Pain?

Can’t You Feel Hillary’s Pain?

On the one hand, Hillary Clinton could just be a very happy woman about now. Witnessing the blockbuster Sarah Palin speech at the Republican convention Thursday night, she has to feel more than a glimmer of hope that Barack Obama will lose in November, making her the presumptive nominee for the Democrats four years from now starting on election day 2008. (And giving her “I told you so” rights galore.)

Her moment of glory and vindication may keep getting delayed, but in her mind it’s all about patience, patience, patience.

On the other hand, watching Sarah Palin had to be a little bit like The Grinch watching from afar on Christmas Morning as the “Whos” in “Whoville” welcomed the true meaning of Christmas. That inspite of the Grinch’s efforts to stop it, by swiping all of their Christmas goodies. Remember how The Grinch looked on as the Whos embraced a Christmas morning, without any “stuff,” which he couldn’t understand, and he was left stunned and only to comment with complete befuddlement that, “it had come without packages, boxes or bags!”

Funny, I just couldn’t help but think there was something more than a little in common with that old Grinch and Hillary Clinton as she watched what she had to immediately understand was the American people falling in love with Sarah Palin. Did she get a glimpse into the first woman President of the United States? Did she realize she’d seen the future – and it wasn’t Hillary Clinton?

“But wait a minute” you can almost hear Hillary Clinton say to all those ungrateful Americans – you people are supposed to want ME, ME! I’ve been waiting for this. I’ve sacrificed for this. I’ve stayed married to Bill because of this! I’m the one. You owe ME!”

“Her? Her? She doesn’t play the victim card! She doesn’t talk about glass ceilings and how she’s badly treated because she’s a woman. Are you people crazy? She’s not a woman, she’s pro-life. Pro-life. She likes babies! And guns. And men. And she’s really good-looking! It’s not fair!”

One can feel Hillary Clinton’s sense that she’s entered an alternative universe. “Sarah Palin hasn’t even lived on the East Coast – not ever! And you people love her?”

It came with packages, boxes or bags. . .

And so Sarah Palin’s star suddenly ascended, as in “I am a real woman – hear me roar”. And she threatens Hillary Clinton and everything the feminists stand for. As I said in a column on the Daily Observer immediately after the Palin nomination, in the feminist world real women only look and act and think a certain way. Just as the Left attempted to destroy Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas because he dared to think differently than black Americans “ought” to think, so too they must destroy Sarah Palin lest the world see that American women don’t “have” to think a certain way at all.

Because if women don’t have to believe certain things, act a certain way, have a certain chip on their shoulders, then just why do we need the modern-day feminists and their agenda after all.

Suddenly the Helen Reddy song from the 1970s has taken on a whole new meaning. “I am woman, hear me roar, in numbers too big to ignore. . . “

Yikes for Hillary. This has got to hurt.

Well phrased: Wonder if the she has any friends left in the MSM after this column?

Yup, Hillary did want Obama to lose, but she can’t be happy at the specter of Palin on the scene having come out of nowhere.

Palin brings out another problem for Hillary. Aging has not been kind to her and Palin or not, hillary may be too ugly to run by the time 2012 rolls around. Palin just amplifies this.

She will have to hope for a McCain win and pray that he tries to run again in 2012. She has a shot at beating him, but if he serves one term and she faces Palin then it’s MUCH tougher.

But it’s her only shot.... she is left hoping McCain both wins and survives to run again in 2012.

Maybe she will mail him lots of vitamins :-)

I am no Hillary fan, but I simply hate the fact that looks play an important role these days.

Abraham Lincoln would have NEVER become President in today’s society.

I really don’t care what Hillary looks like. It’s her policies that I don’t like.

Yup, a sad fact of life, but it's different in Hillary's case. We have watched regularily since '92. To my point, she has aged quite a bit since then. it was really obvious when she had her book cover airbrushed.

Men, on the other hand, don't have the aging problems that women do.

I agree that looks shouldn’t matter. I don’t like Hillary’s policies and all the Clinton garbage that would have come back to the White House if she were president. But I agree, it’s a cheap shot to talk about Hillary looking older. Of course she looks older than when she and Bill campaigned in 1992. How many of us look the same as we did in 1992?

I really don't care what Obama looks like. It's his socialist positions I don't like.

I as a long term freeper will go on record saying Hillary has a pretty enough face when done up as a middle aged woman not falling asleep.

She looked nice enough at her speech in Denver for 60 or so...

That she is not beauty contestant material like Palin or has her pretty figure and legs is just part eating habits and more parts DNA. Cankles versus doe legs is just a luck of the draw.

but to be fair....Thatcher was pleasant but no beauty yet fairly effective...

"I’ve stayed married to Bill because of this!"
"She doesn’t talk about glass ceilings"
"In the feminist world real women only look and act and think a certain way. Just as the Left attempted to destroy Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas because he dared to think differently than black Americans ought to think, so too they must destroy Sarah Palin"

If they divorce it could be a messy divorce and very entertaining. Because the Clintons desecrated, vandalized, and looted the White House I'll always take joy in their public misfortunes and personal embarrassments. Zero compassion. They are like O.J. Simpson to me.

Glass ceiling is leftist term and it suggests victim hood. I'd like to see SHP rename the concept,
Clear well, and essentially put. I just wanted to read it again :)

ummm one reason why Palin is so energizing is that republicans were never known to be great looking. It was very easy for the left to demonize them as a bunch of old fat white guys from the 1950’s.

I honestly believe if she doesn't somehow assume "the mantle" this year, she's done. I don't believe she'll be the nominee come 2012, regardless. I think this year was pretty much the final statement of the DNC to the Clintons: We'll take a loss rather than hand you the power.

She needed to mount a coupe during the convention, and the Obama people cut her off at the pass by forcing her delegates to cast their ballots from the hotel rooms instead of the floor (made it easier to identify and "correct" the Hillary infidels.)

No, she was strong armed out of the nomination. If she couldn't do it now, with the level of support from her followers, I suspect her ability to grab the nomination come 2012 is greatly over estimated.

Well, here's to hoping at least.

Nancy Pelosi undermined Hillary because she is the Queen Bee of Washington. Along comes Sarah Palin who is going knock that botoxed freak for a loop when she starts in as VP
