INCREDIBLE SHRINKING TIMES FEELS THE 'PINCH'

The New York Times yesterday said it will cut back the number of sections it has in the daily paper it sells in the metro New York area beginning next month, the latest cost-saving move at the beleaguered newspaper.

The change returns to four the number of sections in the paper, and represents an about-face from the daily's fanfare-filled move in 1997 to expand to six sections and incorporate color onto its pages.

As part of the move, the Sports section will now be pushed back into the Business section on Tuesdays through Fridays. The Metropolitan section will be published as part of the A section, with national and international news, on Monday through Saturday.

The latest move comes amid a steady stream of unrelenting bad news on the advertising front for the New York Times Co., which recently cut more than 100 editorial jobs at its flagship newspaper.

The Times on Aug. 26 said that newspaper ad revenue companywide fell 12 percent in July versus a year ago.

>>They had THREE, count them, three, rumorfed stories about Palin on their front page, but Edwards they refused to cover because it wasn’t “verified” (with reporters chasing him into the bathroom).

Don’t forget the unverified McCain adultery story as well. There was nothing remotely resembling a real source in that one.

Maybe they can bulk print 3 X 5 cards with “A bunch of stuff happened yesterday” and save even more money...

Actually, there's a couple of jokes buried in that headline.

I hate to say this, but this is pandemic throughout the industry, not just at the Hag.

The AJC did this with the Metro Section that included letters to the editor. Call me paranoid, but I think that section was cut because of the caustic letters to Cynthia Tucker and her band of libs there.

You could publish all the objective news the NYT prints in a small classified ad. The Times should quit publishing the rag and take out a two inch ad in the Post. Save lots of money.

Wonder when the NYTimes will start missing the debt payments on their Taj Mahal building? Maybe Trump will buy it and evict Pinch and his little band of reds!

How about cutting all the sections that are actually opinion and not news? Then, after we read it, we could make a paper airplane out of it.

Ouch that hurts!

Maybe they will keep cutting back until they just send out a postage stamp marked “Vote Democrat”.
