Willie Brown: "Democrats are in trouble"
The Page-Time Magazine ^ | Sept. 6, 2008 | Mike Halperin

Posted on 09/07/2008 11:06:36 AM PDT by Kleebo151

The longtime San Francisco mayor and Democratic genius sounds the alarm over Gov. Palin in a San Francisco Chronicle op-ed:

“Sarah Palin has totally changed the dynamics of this campaign… The Republicans are now on offense and Democrats are on defense. And we don’t do well on defense.”

I was surprised by the last few lines of Brown's Op-Ed, which are on another topic:

By the way, there's a new dining tip for people going out in Oakland.

Be sure to order soup.

That way when the robbery starts, you can slip off your jewelry and drop it into soup so the robbers won't see it.

I wonder if this kind of talk is part of a San Francisco-Oakland rivalry thing, or if the situation in Oakland is so bad that this advice is necessary. Maybe both.

Maybe not a genius, but Willie Brown has plenty of savvy built up over the years, and can recognize the absolute agony the Democrats are going to go through before this is over.

First, of course, is that they have a huge wagon they have hitched on much too lightweight of a draft animal. Obama was sent into the game, woefully unprepared for a flank attack of this magnitude, depending instead of charm and good manners to woo the American public.

And it almost worked. Confident enough so he could bring in a lack-luster second in command on his team, and with the seemingly uninspired John McCain looking like he was unwilling to engage Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., the charismatic, messianic Magic Negro, the post-convention bounce was coming along nicely.

Then that phenomenon which was Sarah Palin happened. Suddenly the game was totally changed, and what looked like a lock on the election totally evaporated. For anything to break right now, would have to have a LOT of effort thrown in, and an unimaginable streak of luck too, for good measure.

The effort, up to now, is all wrong and totally ineffectual, and there does not seem to be all that much luck running in Obama’s favor either. The Democrats were all ready to attack Romney, or Huckabee, or Giuliani, and had complete playbooks set up for each one. Then from way out there in the right-field bleachers comes a total unknown, or at least unknown to the Democrat power brokers.

Result, they were caught flat-footed with no effective playbook. Every time they tried to put her in a box, or try to define her, she side-stepped them and made their efforts look foolish. With all the rage that a bevy of medieval English lords could muster, they went after her by foul means when the “fair” means did not work. Her hair, the fact she had a child with special needs, the sacking of one of her commissioners, an alleged “affair”, the belief that her previous experience did not prepare her for the potential position of Vice-President, and worst and probably least effective, tried to shame Sarah for being a “bad mother”, mainly because her 17-year-old daughter was “in the family way”.

I guess they know by now, that did not work, as they wipe the egg off of their eyebrows and out of their ear canals.

They will keep Obama in place in order to get black votes for the rest of the ticket. Depending on how bady he loses, he might even get int another primary round. After all, he's only 46 so he can keep running for another 25-30 years, which would be 6-7 election cycles.

There’s a lot I have to say about Willie Brown, some of it not really fit for this forum, but the man is a shrewd politician. When he looks at Sarah Palin, turns back to the Dems and says “Guys, you’re in trouble,” I take that as high praise.

"They need to dump Obama AND Biden. I seriously doubt if they will do it because it would be so obvious, contrived and a ploy. It would make Obama appear even weaker for selecting him in the first place.

Me thinks they have to run with him."

You're absolutely correct! Replacing anyone on the Democrat ticket would be an admission of total failure on the part of the Democrats. It would be saying that the Republicans were smarter than they were and that the Republicans were way more in touch with the electorate than they were.

And they would never replace Obama. Can you imagine what the blacks would do?

If Willie Brown weren't Black, you'd never have heard of him.

I don't think that's true. Everything I have heard about Brown indicates that he is brilliant as a politician. Plus he's entertaining. Of course being black is part of who he is.

Well, based on his past, campaigning is about all he does. Of course, that doesn't mean he'll get anywhere. Harold Stassen did a lot of campaigning, too.

Willie Brown is a political genius. The man was Speaker of the CA Legislature forever, even before the Dems had completely taken over CA. He achieved his Speakership by wooing Republicans to vote for him, along with a handful of Democrats. The man knows his stuff.

When Willie talks everybody listens. He ruled California politics for over a generation with nothing more than an Assembly seat. Term limits were passed in this state mainly to get Brown’s hands off the levers of power.

Freepers ought to thank God that Willie isn’t running the DNC!

Willie has it wrong when he claims the pressitutes will treat Sarah like Obama if she is nice to them. They will never stop trying to disembowel her.

How long before Hairplugs Biden has to drop off the ticket in order to spend more time with his family?

I'm sure Hillary is still in the wings... but it's too late. If Obama switched out Biden, every flip flop he's ever done would be news. Then again, as the old jokes used to go - maybe it'll be arkancide...

One of my kids lived in Miami a few years back - she was told to leave her car doors unlocked when parking on the street. That way when the cops recovered it, the windows wouldn't be broken.
