Within 10 minutes of this airing we’d already gotten four or five e-mails about it; 20 minutes later, a bowdlerized version had already hit YouTube and begun circulating. I despise lefty sites for twisting conservatives’ words by selectively editing clips, so let’s cut this one off at the pass before it gets going. Here’s the full exchange with Stephanopoulos, making it perfectly clear that when he says “my Muslim faith” he’s referring to how the people smearing him see him, not how he sees himself. No mas, please.

FNC ran back-to-back one hour documentaries Sunday, first on John McCain, then another on Hussein Obama.
By coincidence, there was one bit of tape of Hussein (in Chicago I think) in which he uses the exact words “my Christian faith”.
I was intrigued by how very carefully Hussein mouthed the words, like he slowed down for a microsecond to review what he was about to say first — almost as if he knew he was treading in dangerous territory.
He’s a muslim. He’s hiding that. And he goofed this morning, letting out the truth.
Couldn’t be more obvious.
I don’t know if pushing this is good or bad. Who was the guy who lost the election by sitting in a tank? People remember the oddest things in elections.
I want to undermine Obama asa much as anyone, but I agree after watching the clip that Obama was saying “my Muslim faith” to indicate that that is what some folks were claiming rather than that is his actual faith. Trying to read it otherwise only makes the person claiming it look bad!

I believe he was talking to a crowd in Washington state when he said he had been to nearly every corner of this country...that he had been to 57 states already...that he was going to a couple more...that his staff decided he would not be going to Hawaii or Alaska.

He blew it. He said what he said and accepted the correction, but..... it’s too late.
There’s something I recall about islam saying that it’s OK to lie to infidels to further their cause.

with 1 left to go, except Alaska and Hawaii were his staff wouldn’t let him go. so that seems to say he thinks there are 60 States.
It sure seems to me from that video that he’s not interested in having the Bible have anything to do with public policy.

The longer clip does not explain anything away. And I don’t recall anyone on FR saying Obama admitted he was a Muslim, but that he made or gaffe, or a Freudian slip.
He was trying to say that no one in the McCain campaign had CLAIMED he was a Muslim. But he said no one had “questioned my Muslim faith.” Then Stephanopoulos corrected him with “Christian faith,: then Obama accepts the correction and repeats it.
This was some combination of a gaffe and a Freudian slip, on a subject that few would ever make such a gaffe. “My Muslim faith” was a very bad choice of words if he meant no one in the McCain campaign had claimed he was a Muslim.
I agree - this was taken out of context.
However, his failure to answer the question in a clear and concise manner makes me wonder about the number of ulcers in his inner circle.
All the nuance, lawyer speak, and convoluted answers are hurting him. He created this “issue” and it’s being discussed now.

I don't think there's anything to push. In all honesty, I think that he's neither Muslim nor Christian. Like many other sophisticated elites, I'm sure he can appreciate certain aspects of religious culture. In a detached, intellectual way, of course. I'm certain he understands that, as a liberal politician, there are negative political ramifications to appearing as anything other than a semi-observant Christian. It just comes with the job.
This is my belief: Obama thinks that being Muslim is no more dangerous or relevant than believing in Santa Claus, and deeply resents having to pretend otherwise for the temporary appeasement of the unwashed redneck hordes he intends to command next January.
Beyond that, I doubt he thinks there's a spark of truth in Islam, Christianity, or any other religion. They're just cultural flavor to him. He went to a madrassa as a youth, and probably remembers Islam as cute, primitive and otherwise harmless. If he sides with Islam at all, it's only out of resentment for having to pretend he's Christian in order to advance his career.
He’s absolutely right. And there are two other ways to use this clip, without misleading people by pretending Obama said he was a muslim.
First, the clip again makes Obama sound like an idiot. Twice in a 1-minute period, he loses his train of thought, does his “um” thing, waves his hand around, like he has no idea what to say next.
Better, it’s a great example of George Stephanopolis acting like a member of the Obama campaign rather than an unbiased journalist. A real journalist wouldn’t be “correcting” his guests, trying to tell the guests what they SHOULD say.
