ANOTHER DEADLY combination of too many guns and too little mental healthcare has exploded in Washington state, where a 28-year-old man allegedly killed six people on a two-hour shooting rampage Tuesday. The tragic story could get lost in the week's focus on presidential politics, but the presidential campaign is precisely where these issues should be debated.

I thought the Globe had come up with another Palin “scandal.” That’s a very misleading headline.
Another example of two few guns and too much mental healthcare.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Thank the liberals who have made possible the rules that now govern the mental health care system. Too many people that should be under care are not...because you know they have the right to sign themselves out of treatment. I will bet that the parents of this kid were frustrated by the same rules by the way the article states that he was in and out of treatment.
I’m sorry, but where is the evidence that money spent on “mental health” prevents these nuts from shooting up people?
Problem is that lefists value the rights of the criminally insane over the rights of law abiding Americans.
I would like to know how this little prick got a gun though.
Trying to set an agenda? I'd love for that debate to get started. A gun control debate of any kind is a loser for democrats, except for in San Francisco maybe.
Let’s see:
Multiple arrests and stays in jail.
Multiple stays in mental health facilities
Multiple laws and regulations abused, unused or ignored
completely.
But because the System failed at every opportunity to stop this madman, the wacko liberals want the government to suppress MY rights to own a gun to protect myself and my family from criminals like this.
Hey, the Globe is half right, anyway—if citizens inside the beltway were able to exercise their Second Amendment rights, teh crazee (and subsequent crime) would drop considerably.
WAIT I have THE Answer!!! Just make murder illegal, oh wait it already is???
hmmm
“Problem is that lefists value the rights of the criminally insane over the rights of law abiding Americans.”
They could care less for the insane. They are simply using this as a tool to push their agenda of disarming the civilian population.
Wait a minute. I thought you said there was too little mental health care available.
Ah, well, what do you expect from The Boston Glob but self-contradiction?
And if there is too little mental health care available in Warshington State you can point the finger directly at Liberalism which has been the governing ideology in that water-logged state for decades.
And I don't want to hear no crap from you Washington Staters about how it doesn't rain every day there (at least West of The Cascades). I lived there for 15 years so I know first-hand that it rains 365 days a year. Except for Leap Years.
While I’m wondering whether that info has been released or not. Was it the weapon of the officer he killed?
. . . and background checks are not automatically required for gun sales.
Note the apples/oranges spin - talk about handguns in the first part, then refer to "guns" in the second - implying there are no laws covering handgun sales. Can anybody from Washington clarify what the laws are?
This happened in Skagit County, WA where I live. In Whatcom County, just to the north, a tax increase was just approved- to aid in mental health care and drug treatment programs. Here is an article from the Bellingham (Whatcom County) newspaper today addressing this issue: http://www.bellinghamherald.com/255/story/537221.html
I would like to know how this little prick got a gun though.
_________
Wrong concern. I would like to know why no one he assaulted was carrying.
