MSNBC Drops Olbermann, Matthews as News Anchors
Washington comPost ^ | 9/8/2008 | Howard Kurtz

MSNBC is removing Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as the anchors of live political events, bowing to growing criticism that they are too opinionated to be seen as neutral in the heat of the presidential campaign.

David Gregory, the NBC newsman and White House correspondent who also hosts a program on MSNBC, will take over during such events as this fall's presidential and vice presidential debates and election night.

The move, confirmed by spokesmen for both networks, follows increasingly loud complaints about Olbermann's anchor role at the Democratic and Republican conventions. Olbermann, who regularly assails President Bush and GOP nominee John McCain on his "Countdown" program, was effusive in praising the acceptance speech of Democratic nominee Barack Obama. He drew flak Thursday when the Republicans played a video that included a tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, saying that if the networks had done that, "we would be rightly eviscerated at all quarters, perhaps by the Republican Party itself, for exploiting the memories of the dead, and perhaps even for trying to evoke that pain again. If you reacted to that videotape the way I did, I apologize."

Matthews, who has criticized politicians in both parties, drew less criticism for his convention role but became a divisive figure during the primaries when he described how he was inspired by Obama's speeches and made disparaging remarks about Hillary Clinton, for which he later apologized.

In May, MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in an interview that during live events Olbermann and Matthews "put on different hats. I think the audience gets it. . . . I see zero problem."

The best part is that “another liberal ‘news’ program bites the dust”.

FAIL!

How Olbermann survives in the media business with such abysmally low ratings is a bigger mystery than the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa. Glenn Beck or Bill O’Reilly would be in danger of cancellation if their ratings were even close to sinking to Olbermann’s low level. Maybe they keep him around to make the other twits on MSNBC (Crissy Boy, Gregory Boy, and Rachel Boy) look halfway decent by comparison.

This is the funniest event in the MSM, whith the possible exception of the contraction at the NYT, in all of 2008!

The man is insane, his ramblings about race makes me think he is one step from offing himself on air. The Playboy interview in which they probably felt they could not dress up his comments make me think he is on a high dose of prescription crazy feel good pills.

Too bad.

Everytime Oberwellian opens his mouth, McCain and Palin gain another thousand votes.
This is why they've been swapped.

I'm sad to see them go.....

“Bad movies make you appreciate the good ones.”

Very few people besides the nutjob left watched them. Their constant outrages are a great way to show everyone how out of whack liberal are.

They wear many hats but Oberman’s is always lined with tinfoil.

Why is Sarah & John letting any of the media, who has been unfairly attacking Sarah, run the debates? You know they will give Obama & Biden the questions ahead of time & throw trick questions to Sarah & John. I would demand something else is done-no NBC debates for sure.

Sorry for the double post. Went to DU to see how the crazies are handling it. Best post may be the one wondering why Bush hasn't had Oberman killed. These folks are out there.

Being Democrats be warned there is lots of foul language.

Olbermann showed up on the pre-game show for NBC’s Sunday Night Football. During the segment I saw, the rest of the crew essentially ignored Olbermann and he didn't say much at all. I was watching it at a restaurant, so I couldn't switch the channel ...

, MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in an interview that during live events Olbermann and Matthews "put on different hats. I think the audience gets it. . . . I see zero problem."

A true statement.

Unfortunately for MSNBC, the audience is only 47 people, everyone else thinks they are as biased as hell and are watching other channels.
