Barack Obamas campaign brushed off suggestions Monday that a verbal gaffe the Democratic candidate made during a weekend television interview is anything more than just that.
In an interview Sunday with ABCs This Week host George Stephanopoulos, Obama tried to suggest that FOX News and others closely allied to Republicans are promulgating the notion that the Illinois senator is Muslim.
Asked about whether McCain himself has done anything to suggest hes Muslim, Obama said, Lets not play games. What I was suggesting youre absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith. And youre absolutely right that that has not come
Christian faith, Stephanopoulos interrupted, correcting Obama.
my Christian faith. Well, what Im saying is that he hasnt suggested that Im a Muslim. And I think that his campaigns upper echelons have not, either. What I think is fair to say is that, coming out of the Republican camp, there have been efforts to suggest that perhaps Im not who I say I am when it comes to my faith, something which I find deeply offensive, and that has been going on for a pretty long time, Obama said.

I saw the interview, he's not Muslim. this is a silly pursuit and it was a gaffe not some secret admission. Can we poke fun at him for tripping over his words instead of trying to decode them into something they weren't.

Why would he gaffe on this one? Sounds more like a freudian slip to me.

ah but it is fun and he isn’t being straight up about his life in Indonesia. I do agree we have plenty of reasons to not vote for him and attack him without worrying about whether he is a Muslim.

He’s not Muslim. But I don’t think he’s Christian either. He’s secularist.

I thought so too. Now I thought Obama wasn’t funny. Comedians couldn’t think of anything to laugh at. Hmmm seems they haven’t been trying too hard.lol

I agree. He was talking about supposed accusations from the McCain camp that he's a Muslim. Stephie compounded the problem by suggesting "Christian Faith" as a substitute, instead of "supposed Muslim Faith" or whatnot.
Obama was unable to provide Stephie with any actual examples of smears coming from the McCain camp, but I think he was trying to blame it all on surrogates like Sean Hannity (who he really has a bug up his butt about).

I don’t think he’s a Muslim, but he certainly is as gaffe-prone as W, if not moreso. And yet, I’m shocked, shocked! to see the MSM are still treating him as The Most Exhalted High Mumbler.

Why would you say he is not Muslim?
Is it because he says that he isn't?
I'm really interested with what you have to say.

and...
Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it’ll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset

“My Muslim faith” was not a “slip.”
It was bait.
0bama wants to bait McCain into attacking his faith, thereby breaking a campaign promise.
It’s a trap for suckers.
