Drilling Issue Could Kill Dems’ Senate Hopes
Pajamas Media ^ | September 9, 2008 | Bridget Johnson

With voters more concerned about the economy and energy, and seeking candidates who hold fast on those core issues, the GOP has an opening for redemption with its base, and the Democrats could find themselves facing pandering accusations from the environmentalist wing while needing to appeal to a blue-collar base...

If those five Republican RINOs can be prevented from waffling, we've got a winning issue.

I just posted an article about drilling and it is along these same lines.

I am beginning to think that a lot of “hot button” issues are coming to the surface and maybe, just maybe, it will be enough to keep from having the Dem’s get really big majorities in Congress.

Contact your Congress critters to let them know that you are tired of high gas prices.

U. S. Senate

U. S. House of Representatives

Send Nancy’s email to:

And un-elect all the dimocrats who will not support drilling EVERYWHERE!

Congress is, supposedly, writing a Bill that addresses drillin off shore. The problem is that they are putting all kinds of things in this Bill so no one could vote against it. What we need is a real “Change” in how we do things. Write a Bill that only addresses drilling and let the votes fall where they may and the people will see who supports it or not. Congress hides behind things like this to protect themselves. Time to stop this foolishness.

I wish I could be more optimistic, but I got my hope up, really up, back during the ‘Republican Revolution’ and we mis-handled every aspect of it so badly I've been unable to muster much hope for our cause these days, even when it appears to be being handed to us on a silver platter. Looks to me like the only way to overcome the drilling ban will be to stand pat, refusing to let it be renewed. It's dead, but with our demonstrated ability to repeatedly snatch defeat from the jaws of victory it's not done deal it should be.

It's simple, the ban expires of old age on Sept. 30th and the only way for it to come back is with new passage by Congress. Seems so simple, doesn't it. Problem is the Dems are going to make it as painful as possible for opponents of the ban to prevail. They will start by attaching the renewal to a bill that's needed to prevent a, gasp, GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN! All of a sudden you will have the very future of the once greatest nation on God's green earth resting in the hands of a few no good Republican politicos determined to hold the future of America hostage to their minority will. Every news outlet, every TV talking head, every newspaper, every liberal talk show host (yes, both of them) will be sounding the alarm. Every union will be parading forth members whose lives are being ruined by the Republicans reckless use of congressional rules. It will be a regular blood letting.

This is exactly how it happened just about 10 years ago. We had the upper hand. We were bargaining for a balanced budget and welfare reform, two very worthy causes. Clinton vetoed the bill that would keep government running and all hell broke loose. No need to go into details, I'm sure the outcome is seared in everyone's memory, like it is in mine.

To make matters worse, this time it's coming up within 30 days of one of the most important elections we'll ever have. If we don't handle this correctly, like having a Plan A, Plan B and Plan C, plus a standby plan, a contingency plan, a fall back procedure and at least two emergency outlets. If not, we're going to end up, using the good ol’ farming term, sucking hind tit, AGAIN.

We've been given a golden opportunity to end this decades old, damnable drilling ban. Do we have the balls to use it, and then to make it stick when the going gets rough? I'm not holding my breath.

Even if the ban does go away, it won't mean instant crude oil flooding the market and driving gas prices back down to the fantastic low price of $2.00 a gallon. Oh no, if we manage to hold the line on the ban it will be off to the Lefties/Dems’s favorite venue, the court system. The court system they spent decades packing with those who understand their appointed positions as goalies for the Dems’ congressional team.

Hang in the their guys. This is going to be the most interesting six weeks or so we've seen in a long time. Not to mention that any one of several enemies are probably just waiting for the prime time to hit us again.

What the Dems don't want you to know is that we don't need no stinkin’ bill! The is dead, gone, kaput on Sept. 30th. They want us to think we need a bill to get it done and then they will pack that bill to the hilt. No bill, no ban. No bill, we drill!

McCain needs to get onboard with drilling in ANWR.

"I had extensive discussions with my Vice Presidential candidate on energy policy. Sarah Palin knows the Alaska environment and its wildlife. She mastered oil policy as Governor of a major oil producing state. Sarah Palin has convinced me that production of domestic oil is a strategic national priority and that includes drilling ANWAR. I know this is at odds with my previous statements but policy must adapt to the circumstances such as our the current national energy crisis. " - John McCain should say this!

No bill, no ban. No bill, we drill!

From what I understand it's not quite that simple. The "ban" is basically a continuing resolution not to authorize offshore drilling. Before offshore drill can start, Congress still must pass a bill authorizing the sell of leases, and the President has to sign that bill.

Well, whatever it is you know full well it’s not simple, or given to an easy understanding by us common folks. That is the most aggravating thing about government at every level, they make everything so complicated. And I’m sure it’s not by accident. Although, the complexity does tend to slow them down some times. It can’t be all bad!
