Speaking at a high school in Norfolk, Obama took a few moments to address what he calls "the made-up controversy" of the day, Amie Parnes reports.
Obama said the McCain campaign moved to "seize an innocent remark and take it out of context because they knew it's catnip for the news media."
"See, it would be funny, but the news media decided that would be the lead story yesterday. This happens every election cycle. Every four years, this is what we do. This is what they want to spend two of the last 55 days talking about...Enough!" he said.
Obama called the attacks "lies, outrage and swift boat politics."
"These are serious times and they call for a serious debate...spare me all the phony outrage. Spare me all the phony talk about change."

Catnip?
Surely ....this is a mis-quote....
The desperation of a stupid reprobate. Open mouth, insert foot -— President of the USA? C-in-C? This is all just a bad dream, right?
Isn't that special?
Poor (zer)Obama. Everybody in the MSM is against him!
“seize an innocent remark and take it out of context”.
Payback, baby! For all the years that Dems/media have been doing it to R’s.
Muslim belittles woman ... and he’s the victim.
I’m shocked!
If he keeps going with this it’s going to turn into a Tar Baby. No wait!
Nope, that is what he said: "Catnip for the media." I guess if Obama thinks the media loves catnip that means he thinks they are wussy cats.
Real issues like “how many houses does McCain have?”
if it was a gaffe then he’s the stupidest man on earth
I don’t think it was a gaffe
he rerally has a problem with women
You can put lipstick on a pig. Its still a pig. You can wrap up an old fish in a piece of paper and call it change. Its still going to stink after eight years. Weve had enough, he exclaimed to a standing ovation.
Never heard the expression old fish in piece of paper called change. Its obvious barry. We hear what you said.
Can you imagine the outrage if McCain said “you can lead Mohamad to the mountain...”. Barry wants this to be a one way street.
‘zackly !
Wussy boy is getting real old. Blubbering like a little kid over everything.
The interesting part of this story for me is the reminder of the power of Matt Drudge. I think he could wake up one morning and decide he wants the media to talk about pretty much anything he wants and it will happen. Just put a big headline on his webpage.
This IS a manufactured story, but if it gets Obama on the defensive then all’s fair in love and politics. Thank God Drudge is on our side.
You know how you can tell when Obama is losing? Count the number of times he uses the words “Swift Boat” during any interview or public appearance.
“Catnip”
Obama calls media pussies.
I am female and all I could think of while he was speaking was, “What a condescending pr!ck!!!”
********************
If only the media weren't against Obama! It's just not fair!
Leave Obama alone!!
Poor Baby ... he needs his bottle.
Now Barry is blaming the press?!? The press has worshipped his ground, and now this is whipped up by the press?
Barry is in deep trouble.
That said, I think too much was made about the comment as well. But, when you look at the post from a blogger made late last week, then see that not only Obama but also his media hawks repeated the exact same words... well, we now know the Obama camp doesn't have an original bone in his body and has to plagiarizer a blogger to make a funny.
A punk and a whiner.
“These are serious times and they call for a serious debate...spare me all the phony outrage”
Excuse me? Who told the pig joke and is now feigning outrage? I thought this quote could be attributed to McCain toward Obama!
"The Infidel Woman Was Asking for It", again. As usual.
NO apology, none, nada, zip - nix that thought....he was calling out McCain for the “made up” controversy.....says McCain is afraid to take him on the real issues........you get the idea

LOL! Good one. :)
Nobody made this up. Obama is the one that made the statement and it follows to close to Gov. Palin’s statement about pit bulls and the people knew it. The other thing that is interesting is that this is the same type of statement that people use in the ghettos. Statements like “Your momma wears combat boots”.....only worse. This is part of their life and Obama is no different.
It is also interesting that Obama is really getting irritated about being called a muslim. Is he saying that he is embarassed to be associated with muslims?
The Lord O’Bama is laying down the law. The MSM had better get back on script.
Watch, some liberal milquetoast in the NY Times will write a column on how awful the media is for getting wrapped up in this.
I’d have been inclined to give BHO a pass on his remaark, but the way he’s handling the pressure speaks volumes about his temperament and thin skin. Hardly Presidential.
And he’s demonstrating that he’s incapable of admitting a mistake, or apologizing and “moving on”.
only thing i ever donated to ..Swift boat vets....Kerry should have been hung for a traitor.
“Obama said the McCain campaign moved to “seize an innocent remark and take it out of context because they knew it’s catnip for the news media.”
No class. Bizarre campaign strategy. The simpleton must be getting a kick out of circling that drain.
“The man is not smart.”
He’s smart in the same sense that most leftist intellectuals are “smart”.
You could not make this stuff up if you tried.
He is hilariously inept when left on his own.
He is the pot calling the kettle black about change, then he attacks the media, which has been pulling for him strongly all along...
"These are serious times and they call for a serious debate...spare me all the phony outrage. Spare me all the phony talk about change."

I can't wait for some serious debate!
...only if the NY Times' staff has been dumbed-down enough to keep the lipstick issue alive.
I give you even money odds.
and all that takes is support for collectivism.
Takes one to know one.
“Words matter” except when the words are his like all his recent gaffe.
Spare me Obama. And laughter adds just the right touch of sincerity to your remarks.
How about all the phony outrage over the words community organizer. Spare me.
