She was a recently elected governor and the mother of five children, including a handicapped infant.
The scorn from the mainstream press and the left-leaning blog world was both intense and instantaneous. Andrew Sullivan of the Atlantic immediately began circulating rumors that Trig was not the governor's baby - that she had engaged in a huge charade to cover up her teen daughter's illegitimate child. The New York Times reported on Page One that Mrs. Palin had been a member of the Alaska Independence Party. Eleanor Clift of Newsweek described the reaction of most newsrooms to Mrs. Palin's elevation as "literally laughter." US Weekly rushed out a cover story picturing Mrs. Palin holding her baby son with the headline "Babies, lies, & scandal."
And that was just the throat-clearing phase. NBC's Brian Williams wondered whether she could discharge her responsibilities with all those kids. Sally Quinn of The Washington Post asked, "Will she put her country first, or will she put her family first?" Mort Kondracke called her a "wacko right-winger."
Now it hardly needs mentioning that Brian Williams and company would sew their own lips closed before ever uttering such heresy about a liberal woman candidate. Nor would it even occur to them to question any male candidate's fitness because of the number of children he had.
How do the media poobahs explain it? They say (and to her credit, Sally Quinn has apologized for her comments) that Mrs. Palin's inexperience prompted their contempt. But aren't these the same people who had just the week before been defending Barack Obama's thin resume?

What gets me is all their faux concern about her religious beliefs, after all the breathless bloviating in the media about the “new religious left”. And they didn’t have all that concern about Barry’s membership in a church of “black liberation theology” racists, and how that might impact his governing.
Who's laughing now, Eleanor? Who's laughing now?
I sure would like to see a snapshot of those newsrooms on Nov. 4. All tears. ....followed shortly by seething anger.
Confronts?
How about smears, slimes, calumniates, vilifies?
Has anyone seen or heard of an apology from Peggy Noonan?
Whatever did Noonan say? I guess I didn’t catch it....
The press is falling over themselves scared. Why would ‘objective’ journalists treat a candidate this way and totally use velvet gloves for the other side? Because they work for the other side. 89% of ‘unbiased’ journalists vote democrat, which means more than that do, since some lie about not voting democrat.
Die, Dinosaur media! DIE! Be honest, and go to work for your liberal masters. Be honest about who you are. Media whores and shills for your favorite liberal political heroes.
You all wanted to see the destruction of the left wing press, I give you Gov. Sarah Palin.
I wonder how much mirth Clift exhibits these days.

I have trouble searching for article here. At the RNC convention, Noonan and some others were caught talking in an open mike. Noonan said some pretty dastardly things, like, “Palin, was not the best possible pick.” That, “it showed that the republicans were into narratives.” That it “was over.” (the election I presume) and that it’s all “BS”, assuming Sarah Palin.
See if you can find the post.
“...there stands Sarah, Trig Palin in her arms, a beautiful ambassador for the path of humility, duty, honor and grace. It’s no wonder she was in their crosshairs from the get-go.”
We like Mona Charen so much, we even put up with that odius
Eleanor Clift& Co., just to see her on McLaughlin Group...
Thanks for posting this
I strongly recommend that everyone click over to the WT article and read the whole thing. It is, IMHO, a great article by a gal who I though was lost to our cause. Just to temp you I'll give you the best paragraph from the article:
"The example of people living their principles by embarking on the undeniably difficult path of raising a handicapped child is a hard one to dismiss. In fact, it's hard not to admire. Don't most of us, deep down, really think the most humane and honorable thing is to treat all life as sacred? Even if you are not religious or have no belief in God - doesn't it appeal to an enlightened humanism to give support and love to the handicapped?"
Could any of us written that any better? I think not.
Remember the two prerequisites for being a leftist: 1. utter hypocrisy; 2. thorough shamelessness. When wondering how these people can act as they do, always refer to this basic make up.
I sense that a win-win for us could be unfolding. First, I think it’s pretty clear that the MSM attack on Palin is backfiring. Second, I think virtually any semi-intelligent American (excepting the Looney Left) has now seen the rampant bias of the MSM to a degree never before exposed.
We all loathe the bias and understand how detrimental it is, but I would love to see us take real action against it. I’d love to see a massive effort focused on one of the MSM networks, for example, an unleashing of phone calls, faxes, and e-mails the like of which they’ve never seen. Pick one, NBC probably being the most obvious target right now, and unleash fed-up-with-you hell that demands a change of their ways. Pick one of their major sponsors and launch an unrelenting viral campaign urging a boycott of that one company unless they pull their ads from the chosen network.
I think we are at a point in time when we might be able to finally make a real difference in the MSM.

"...two admirable men at the top and two admirable vice presidential candidates..."
"Where are the Democrats going to go? I suspect to foreign policy. In politics it used to be called Tolstoy: war and peace. McCain-Palin will mean more war, Obama-Biden will mean peace."
b.hussein admirable and means peace? I think not considering he will surrender to the islamic terrorists.
“Who’s laughing now, Eleanor? Who’s laughing now?”
A week and a half ago, a liberal acquaintance bet me money that Sarah Palin would be off the ticket within two weeks. I will be donating the proceeds of that bet to the Palin/McCain campaign next Monday.
