Democratic jitters about the US presidential race have spread to Capitol Hill, where some members of Congress are worried that Barack Obamas faltering campaign could hurt their chances of re-election.
Party leaders have been hoping to strengthen Democratic control of the House and Senate in November, but John McCains jump in the polls has stoked fears of a Republican resurgence.
A Democratic fundraiser for Congressional candidates said some planned to distance themselves from Mr Obama and not attack Mr McCain.
If people are voting for McCain it could help Republicans all the way down the ticket, even in a year when the Democrats should be sweeping all before us, said the fundraiser, a former Hillary Clinton supporter.
There is a growing sense of doom among Democrats I have spoken to . . . People are going crazy, telling the campaign youve got to do something.
Concern was greatest among first-term representatives who won seats in traditionally Republican districts in the landslide of 2006. Several of them face a real fight to hold on to those seats, the fundraiser said.
Tony Podesta, a senior Democratic lobbyist, said members of Congress were a little nervous after Mr McCain shook up the race with his choice of Sarah Palin as running mate and intensified attacks on Mr Obama.
Republicans have been on the offensive for the past two weeks . . . You dont win elections on the defensive.
The campaign manager for a first-term Democratic congressman from a blue-collar district in the north-east rejected suggestions that Mr Obama had become a liability. He said his candidate would reach out to Republicans and avoid attacks on Mr McCain.
You play, you pay, idiots.
Did you honestly think you could immortalize this empty suit?
Very, very interesting.
Grab the Dhimmis by the nose, and kick them in the ass all the time, when the Republicans are tired of that, they should engage in another round of it.
It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. Democrats are still favored in those “generic” polls, but if the current trend continues, there could be surprises come Election Day.
It appears that the American people aren’t happy with the “new direction” Pelosi and Reid have been taking us in over the past few years. Well. You know what they say, NORTH TO ALASKA!
Hope they enjoy the ride....
fear.. I smell fear. Palin is the wooden stake driven into the Dims’ heart. lol
You mean that former OU quarterback?
:-)
I've watched Palin's speech again a couple of times today, and her ridicule of Obama is scorching - in a sweet way, of course.
I finally figured out that she is talking to him with that maternal sarcasm that mothers use with their teenagers who aren't nearly as smart as they think they are.
Didn’t these super-delegate morons play a key role in nominating Obama? Didn’t they have the ultimate veto power? Well, that’s what they get for affirming the nomination of a Marxist flack.
But...but...I thought Barry's executive experience was running his campaign? How can it be faltering?
Now for dessert watch Rudy again followed by Sarah. Very delicious.
Of course, the lesson of that story is to realize just how much the SD's wanted the Clinton's OUT.
If I were Steve Schmidt, I would hit him hard with something in the next couple of days in order to keep him from regaining his footing.
No kidding. As Krauthammer said, ‘Rudy and Sarah didn’t just offer red meat up there, they slaughtered an entire cow.’
Actually the generic head-to-head is about where it has been in the past when we gained seats.
In Sept 2002, Dems led Republicans 45-42. We held the house that year and gained 2 senate seats.
In 2004, they led the generic head-to-head by 6 and we gained two seats in the house and 4 in the senate.
Heck, in 94, the matchups had the Dems ahead by 4.
This year, I’ve seen one poll where Republicans were leading the generic ballot. Most of the rest are within 5. That’s a LOT better than 2006.
The question is, do we have the party support and candidates to get anything done? That’s the gray area.
