Jimmy Kimmel's summary of the incident
McCain used it when referencing Hillary’s health care plan. He didn’t use it referring to Hillary herself.
Obama did use it to reference Palin herself. He paused so he could get the full effect for it, and his audience thought it was hilarious, and started chanting Palin, Palin...
Kimmel should bone up on the topic before he starts making a democrat out of himself.
Whether intentional or unintentional, he’s a fool: because his “job” is to win an election by bringing people (and at this point, especially white women) to his side. So question yourself: was it a smart move?
You saw his audience’s wild reaction. They understood the meaning, just as Republicans did! Most stand up commedians “work” their audience... He did pause for effect. So I’m in the intentional camp... but if it was unintentional, well then he’s obviously living in a bubble. For how many days was the media playing Palin’s “Pitbull Lipstick” - “Pitbull Lipstick” - “Hockey mom? Pitbull Lipstick”. We got doses of it even here in Italy. And when the association is still eminently fresh, you the “ONE” promising CHANGE (and bla bla bla) are gonna “innocently” come out with “PIG - LIPSTICK”?
Can he really be THAT innocent?
Rookie crap, all the way.
after reading all these comments, I change my mind again. I guess the laughter gives it away as an intended insult to Palin. Obama’s staff must have thought this one up and must have thought it to be pretty clever.
It was stupid. He may not have meant it the way it came out. But he should have known better than going there in the first place. The fact that he was so clueless is where the fault lies.
his next line is “you can take an old fish and wrap it in paper but it still stinks.” That’s not a common phrase, but it free associates to barracuda , which again is Palin.
There IS a subtext here; Obama played it; enjoyed it. . .and invited the audience along. And they 'got it'; and they loved it. I don't know anyone who has NOT heard of this expression. But whatever the case; the 'pig' wearing lipstick is clear; just as clear as who was being referenced in Obama's 'closer'. . .the 'old fish wrapped in yesterday's newspaper'. (Have a clue, Jimmy?) His routine was a 'twofer'! (Do not know anyone who has not heard this 'reference' either; but it does not change the meaning or intent of Obama).
Let us NOT forget; the fricking lines leading up to this were 'lifted' from WaPo cartoon!
Used to think Obama would have made a 'great Billy Graham'; but that requires more authenticity. . .honesty. Having watched him; now think he could do a great 'Vegas' magic act.
The truth is; that is precisely what he is doing; he has just taken it on the road. .
obama knew he could take a swipe at Gov. Palin and say he didn’t mean it “that way”
as a youth, I too employed double entandre to poke fun at people
Now that I am 47 years old, I have no time for such monkey shines
This is probably why some cracks in his demeanor have surfaced with him feeling bored and tired. I don’t even remember John Kerry complaining about the food he ate, yet you’ve got Barack complaining about it some days ago.
Some innocent expressions McCain can use at his next town-hall meeting, and the press will be all understanding and sympathetic:
“I looked into Senator Obama’s finances, and there’s something in the woodpile there.”
“Let’s call a spade a spade and admit that Senator Obama isn’t ready to lead.”
“Senator Obama wouldn’t pick a ninny as a running mate, would he?”
“Senator Obama, the jig is up.”
“Senator Obama’s record of achievements is a bit niggardly.”
“Some people look at Senator Obama and think ‘African.’ I look at him and think “African’t.’”
Hey, what could go wrong?
The people in the audience sure took it the same way and you could hear the laughter and applause. It wasnât only the Republicans who knew what he meant.
Hussein Obama COMPLETELY knew what he was doing, and clearly intended to refer to Palin.
He stopped. Put his hand over his forehead then held it there, looking at the crowd meaningfully, then said it with a very clear sneer.
He meant every word.
“It is a common expression, but Obama knew and his core audience KNEW what he was referring to. Couple the PIG comment (referring to Palin) with the old FISH comment that was meant to refer to McCain and voila... classic smear... coming from the messiah of CHANGE!!!”
Exactly. McCain is clearly being referred to as the”old fish wrapped in paper” and Palin as the”pig wearing lipstick”. Obama only contexted these insults in reference to change so that he could deny calling McCain an old fish and Palin a pig. Having said this, it is better to not continue to push this issue. Good that it got media attention, but now is the time to let it rest. Then it can be a seed of doubt that can germinate within the American Consciousness.
It is natural to want to circle the wagons around Sarah, but she is tough. She must prove to the American public that she is up to the challenge of the office she seeks. I have faith in her. Our job is to bring to light the vile and deceit of our opposition but not react to it. No demands for apologies or any of that. That only makes us appear weak and petty.
In my family and in my public life... I’m all for calling someone on bad behavior. Just sets things straight for the future.
The problem with discourse in politics today is that the GOP is so afraid of calling the other side on their bad behavior... so as in any situation where a grievance goes unnoticed, it escalates.
It is not whining, weak or petty to point out the despicable.
But that isnt the best part. They were calling Palin lipstick on a pig before the RNC:

Glad you saw reason in the end. My first impulse after hearing it was "what the hell?" because the line was used on obama campaign websites days before, even explicitly referring to Palin as a pig. Also, he insulted Palin twice - the stinky fish comment is an allusion to old smelly ho's.
“The problem with discourse in politics today is that the GOP is so afraid of calling the other side on their bad behavior... so as in any situation where a grievance goes unnoticed, it escalates.”
Absolutely true. The left has been conditioning the American citizenry for decades. Conservatives are evil, racist, warmongers, the party of the rich, destroyers of the environment, ignorant, and on and on and on ad nauseum.
A lie repeated often enough becomes a public assumption. Having failed to effectively challenge the veracity of their lies and propaganda. Just as Islam has infiltrated Britain, so the left has infiltrated us, The Media, Hollywood, our schools and universities. All infected.
America died while smoking a joint and wishing for peace on earth.
