...In a briefing for reporters Monday, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said they expected to hold all of the states won by Mr. Kerry in 2004, which gave him 251 electoral votes out of the 270 needed to win.
Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has pulled back from Georgia, stepped up his campaign in Pennsylvania and Michigan, and poured attention on Ohio.
The campaign hopes to take Iowa and New Mexico out of the Republican Party's column, which would push its total to 264 - putting it within six electoral votes that the campaign expects to find in at least one of six remaining tossups: Colorado, Indiana, Virginia, Nevada, Nebraska or Florida.
"When you look at the battleground states that will determine the presidency, we feel very good about where we are," Mr. Plouffe told reporters.
But Republicans expect to hold red states that the Obama camp has targeted, and hope to pick off Pennsylvania or Michigan, where the Real Clear Politics average of polls gives Mr. Obama a narrow two percentage point lead. A Republican victory in either state would be devastating for Mr. Obama's chances.

McCain is catching up and Obama’s donations are drying up.
Panic has set in with the Dems.
Nebraska??? The Obama Campaign is building castles in the sky.
They are eyeing some of the EVs, especially from big city areas. Like Maine, Nebraska splits their EV.
Nebraska divides its EC votes rather than awarding them winner-take-all. My understanding is that Team Bambi hopes to get one EC vote there.
In Nebraska they’ve targeted Lincoln?, good luck there.
It’s not about winning anymore. It’s about saving face. Otherwise, Obama WILL be Carter 2.0...in November 1980.
OBAMA -the hysterical one- hath spoken
I think enough Americans are catching on that he’s a shoddy foreign import. No slave blood. A faker who has been doing a good imitation of competency when he’s really just a stage actor and a Columbia/Harvard affirmative action dunce
No crap! Obama is down to about a five state strategy, as is McCain. For Obama, it’s CO, VA, NH, MI, PA, and maybe OH, although I think he’s figuring out that OH is going to be tough. He doesn’t need us. He does need either CO or VA.
Obama backs off 60-state strategy
You counting the EU?
Indiana and Florida would be tough for Obama to pick up.
New Mexico and Colorado is his best bets. And if he wins Colorado, McCain better pick up Michigan or PA.
If I were barry, I’d pour a whole lot of money into ACORN in order to get the illegal, dead and contrived vote. This number is significant already.
Don’t listen to ratmedia push polls and ratmedia wishful thinking. Watch where they set up shops and close down shops.
“Obama backs off 50-state strategy”
is he changing it to a 57 - state strategy?
This seems to have been on the back burner, but may come home to roost. While Hussein hasn't released any transcripts, the fact that he wasn't included on any honor rolls at Colombia provides a clear indication that he was both unqualified and undeserving (ie the ultimate effect of affirmative action) to be admitted to HL.
That fact that he is NOT descended from slaves, yet is still widely embraced by AAs, is an interesting point. Imagine at some future date, an Hispanic POTUS candidate from Mexico City's ruling European elite, who appeals to descendants of illegals.
Obama is playing a 270 game. I want McCain to play the 300 game. Go for the gut and knock this phony out once and for all.
They have to show a path to victory otherwise their donors will get depressed and whatnot.
Big city areas? In Nebraska? I guess you mean Omaha?
Meanwhile, Scott Rasmussen’s poll has us only down 2 points in Washington state.
We are gaining momentum.
Did Senator Obama really mean to call Governor Palin a pig? I dont know, but the wildly cheering audience reaction was clear on what they interpreted. Of course, his repeated explanations, like on the Letterman show, just dig the hole deeper. The lip stick story keeps going on and on. For Sarahs benefit, many Alaskans welcomed her home on Wednesday night with Palin Is Great (PIG) signs.
Did South Carolina Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler really say that Sarah Palins primary qualification seems to be that she hasnt had an abortion? Yes she did.
Did her husband, former Democratic leader Don Fowler make stupid remarks about God because the hurricane interfered with the Republican convention? Yes he did.
Thank you democratic leadership. Letting us know how you feel about women who have worked their way up to positions of high responsibility. Governor Sarah Palin is an outstanding example of executive leadership. Unknown to many, as leader of the Alaska national guard, she commands the very missile units who face the Bear and other enemies across the straights. She is the tip of the spear.
Thank you John McCain, for picking an excellent Vice-President to-be. The Republican headquarters here in Cherokee County, Georgia is flooded with volunteers.
At RCP McCain is leading in three categories, national polls, approval rating, and intrade. There’s a lag on the electoral college estimates because the polls come in piecemeal state to state. But it looks, assuming he takes Ohio, he just needs one of the following, Colorado or New Mexico, and he’s got it. He’s also in play in Pennsylvania and Michigan and if one of those goes, it will be a rout. Anything can happen, but I’d say right now momentum is with McCain and Palin and they’ll go ahead in the electoral college very soon and won’t be headed.
Actually, 0bomba would do better with a 107 state strategy.
The 57 Organisation of the Islamic Conference states, with 0 EV's, which 0Bomba is not going to give up no way no how, AND a good portion, or 270 EV's, of the remaining 50 USA states.
Pandering, at best. Mega-egotistical at worst.
Doesn’t B. Hussein have to report soon his August fundraising numbers?
So am I but meanwhile lets try to narrow it down to exclude Hispanics and other immigrants and women
BTW We get Colombian immigrants (legal and illegal) here who look just like Northern Europeans. Will they get affirmative action? I'll bet they do
I heard that BO pulled his entire campaign staff out of Texas this week.
No margin for error.
That's why it's so important for McCain to work on flipping MN/WI/MI/PA. You don't want to put all your marbles in holding several tossup states.
Well, of course you're not going to shoot for 270 on the nose. But all 50 states? You know darn well that unless they had the election sewn up (or completely lost), the only reason any candidate would go to Hawaii is for a little R&R.
There aren't really many options as far as swing states go. If you're Obama, you're not going to spend much time in states like Utah, Arizona, the Dakotas, and probably much of the south. Those areas are firmly in McCain's camp. Likewise if you're McCain, you're not typically going to spend a lot of time in New York, Massachusetts, and probably not even California, unless the polls show it very close there.
It costs money to campaign, and you don't just thrown around money in states where you don't need to spend.
I thought it was his 57 state strategy
I thought Barry had a fifty-SEVEN State strategy!,,,,LOL
