The guy sounded very remorseful on a clip from CNN. I had visions of him being this huge A-hole, but it just didn't materialize. It appears he had some bad breaks and want to start from scratch. Hopefully, the guy will find some religion.
Total non-story, otherwise McCain wouldn't have picked Palin.

Here’s a simple question:
What Was Governor Palin supposed to do?
A. The guy tasered a 10 year old, and threatened to taser her daughter.
B. They have multiple witnesses who saw him drunk and using his badge as an “out”.
C. They have multiple witnesses who heard him threaten to “put lead into” her father-in-law.
Why would a governor allow a state employee to remain on active duty given what they knew? If she HADN’T fired Monegan and Wooten had killed someone, Palin would be CRUCIFIED for protecting a family/former family member.
She was caught in a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t situation. They were erring on the side of caution, trying to get Wooten removed WITHOUT making it look like a personal vendetta.
It’s a non issue for a lot of reasons, including the fact that these department heads serve at the pleasure of the Governor. She can let them go for no reason, or just because she doesn’t like the color of their hair. They are political appointees.
This is highly analogous to the big Democrat brouhaha over Bush’s firing of several U.S. Attorneys. They are political appointees, as well. Clinton fired them all. It was a phony issue. They just hoped to catch someone lying about a non-issue in their “investigation,” when the underlying action was not a crime or misconduct in any way.
The Democrats in Alaska are trying the same thing with Palin.

Remember, the DNC circulated a memo with the objective of forcing Palin to quit immediately after the GOP convention.
I think most people would want the same thing and wonder right along with her why that didn't happen! I know I do.
Former Maryland governor Bob Erlich went through four years of this type if treatment (for replacing political appointees) to the cheerleading of the Baltimore Sun. He lost to O’Malley in ‘06. Governor Bob is enjoying life as a spectator as O’Malley’s approval crashes. The Erlichs may be back for another try in 2010.
On another note, if Alaska is an "At Will" state like my state of Michigan is then the employer has the right to discharge you "at will" for no reason whatsoever.......

Bah. If he told "all" he would only undress himself in public. He's not the good guy here, and at least he's smart enough to know that much.

We’ll have to point out that “Troopergate” is already taken. It belongs to Eliot Spitzer, who used state troopers to intimidate his enemies, rather than firing ones who are child and wife abusers.
Which, not so coincidentally, is why there are Republicans in the mix here. They are friends, and cronies of the corrupt Republicans Governor Palin has already gone after. Doing the right thing can often be costly, but it *is* the right thing. Thus I support, and stand by the Governor of Alaska against the "good old boy" goons...

Most folks don't understand that the real facts demonstrate that nobody at all was fired, not the State Trooper Wooten, nor Mr Moneghan, who was the overall supervisor. Mr Moneghan was removed from his position, in which he served at the governor's pleasure, form reasons which were at best, only remotely related to Trooper Wooten. He was offered, by Governor Palin, another position, with no loss of pay, in another department she felt was more suited to his abilities. He declined, and resigned.
Those are the facts, and all the partisan witch-hunting they try will not change them. Mr. Moneghan, himself, is on the public record, as refuting that Governor Palin fired him at all, let alone because of Trooper Wooten...
