Biden: Americans Want a Sleepover With People They Like
ABC News ^ | September 14, 2008 | ABC News staff

Americans just want to have "a sleepover with people they like," said Democratic vice-presidential nominee Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., Sunday, accusing Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., of being "divorced" from the nation’s economic woes.

"Just the other day Sen. McCain confessed and I quote, 'It's easy for me to go to Washington and frankly be divorced from the day-to-day challenges of the American people,'" Biden said.

McCain said it at the 9/11 forum, defending Sarah Palin’s experience as a mayor, saying she’s been out there dealing with the day to day problems of people. For whatever reason, he decided to contrast that experience with himself as a senator. It was a totally incompetent statement that will keep giving to the Democrats all election long.

Along with that and saying the economy is fundamentally strong today of all days, I think McCain has probably given back all his gains. He may not be able to get them back when 0bama puts the ‘divorced’ comment on 24 hour loop.

You know, I'm actually starting to like Biden. I would never ever vote for him, but his timing on things is exquisite.

Context is a meaning-changer in this case. At http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13400.html

Asked by Judy Woodruff of PBS about Palin’s stint as “a small-town mayor,” McCain replied: “Listen, mayors have the toughest job, I think, in America. It’s easy for me to go to Washington and, frankly, be somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have.”

"Baby?" He sounded like one of those cheap nightclub acts.

Well, here's hoping that he stays a step ahead of the Vaudeville Hook. We need him out there!
