Gunning for victory risky for Obama
Washington Times ^ | 16 sept 08 | Donald Lambro

Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama's hopes for carrying Montana have diminished over the past few months, and Montanans say it comes down to one word: guns.

"In Montana, we like our guns. We like big guns. We like little guns. We like shotguns. We like pistols. Most of us own two or three guns. Gun control is hitting what you shoot at," the state's Democratic Gov. Brian Schweitzer told the New York Times in April. When asked why he thought the Democratic nominee would not win his state, he replied, "guns."

My DH is constantly trying to take inventory! He never gets it finished! Our insurance agent keeps after him, but it is a time consuming, tedious job. We try to pick up where we left off, but we never have gotten a complete list to the agent. My 2 sons not only have the ones we’ve given them, but also both their grand-dad’s, so we always seem to find another one, then another. I’ve got 3 gun safes (big ones!)2 cabinets, and every door in the house seems to have a couple behind it.

"He meant two or three per family member."

Thanks for setting me straight. I thought he meant 'per vehicle.'

That Governor needs to be replaced with an R.
Any chance that will happen??

I have friends in Montana and they say he is “all hat-—no cattle” blowhard.

IMO, get your insurance thru the NRA.
I don’t trust the Liberals to go after the insurance companies to report everyone who is insuring guns on their policies.

I don’t see the NRA complying.... I think the insurance companies would comply without a whimper.

Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant said Monday that Mr. Obama "is the most "anti-gun presidential candidate in American history.

"He has supported bans on handguns and semi-automatic assault firearms, and he has voted to ban possession of many shotguns and rifles commonly used by hunters and sportsmen across America.

As a state senator in Illinois, he voted for a broad range of gun control measures and supported the District's and Chicago's gun bans

Barack Obama is Sarah Brady in pants.

In comparison, Barry makes gun grabbers Chuckie Schumer & Di-Fi look like Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane.

In 2000, for example, the NRA mounted a massive direct-mail and TV/radio campaign against Mr. Gore's candidacy and his gun control voting record. Voter exit polls in that election showed that about 48 percent of all voters owned guns that year, up from 37 percent in 1996.
If they only had showed up for Dole in 96, maybe September 11, 2001, the bank failures, the energy crisis, etc. would not have happened. What were they thinking?
NRA officials say the gun issue has traction across the country, especially among union households that are heavily Democratic. "Polls show that gun ownership in union households runs from a low of 48 percent in California to 90 percent in states like West Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Nevada and places like that," Mr. LaPierre said.
That 20% of Union members are also NRA members. These members helped elect George W. Bush in 2000. (Zogby International, 2000)

“BO has a new radio ad out featuring a former NFL star (missed his name) who claims both BO and McCain support the RKBA, but BO would cut middle class taxes by $1,000, thereby creating more jobs.”

America’s consrevative electorate makes a liar out of every ambitious Liberal!!!

Btw his ‘tax cut’ is a check from the Govt. Its Orwellian use of the term ‘tax cut’. Why dont we just abolish the income tax for 90% of Americans while we are at it?

We do have the NRA, also the NSSA but none of them will cover the entire value of the guns. We just have too many. I think the max on the homeowner’s insurance is $5,000.00, but that is with a complete inventory, reasonable risk accommodations (safes for storage, distance from fire dept. etc.), and I'm pretty sure the NRA & NSSA cover another $10k each. We have mainly Berettas for tournaments & bird hunting, Remingtons & Winchesters for hunting big game, and assorted Ruger, Mossberg, Ithica, etc. for plinking and varmint hunting. Bucks add up quick with 4 powder burners in the house.

And another thing, I propose we rename the Democratic Party the “Gimme Party”. I also would like to remind the beady eyed, man-hating, ball-less, endless wastes of oxygen, city-slicken yahoos that we rednecks out here in the red “fly-over” states that they don’t “trust” to make our own decisions have all the food, the water, and 99% of the guns in this country. It’d be a good thing for them to remember while they’re bashing the common folk.

I tried to insure my guns with USAA but the phone agent wanted make, model, caliber, barrel length, and SERIAL NUMBER!

I said, “You don’t want to insure my guns, you want to REGISTER them!” and I hung up.

BTW, here in South Carolina we’re gun friendly, too.

“I think you are overreacting”

Explain the logic underlying that conclusion, please.

Yeah, most insurance companies want the serial number. I don't particularly mind that. Most of our guns were either private sale or inherited. Some are very irreplaceable, but the fact that they are traceable by serial number isn't a reason for fear. If anything, the sheer volume that we have will give anyone attempting to take them away pause. And, we also have some that are not worth insuring, so they won't get them all at any rate.

Do you have full reciprocity with other ccw states? If you don't then you're only friendly to your own people. I refuse to travel anywhere my ccw permit is no good. Those states can forego my tourist dollars. As it currently stands the places with which FL has full ccw reciprocity are really the only places I'd be interested in traveling to anyway.
