England has become the most crowded major country in Europe, official figures show.
The number of people crammed in has overtaken those in Holland, long the most densely-populated major nation on the continent.
A count released to MPs showed England now has 395 people per square kilometre.
Crowding has increased because of high immigration into England while the Dutch population has fallen or remained steady.

Last night MPs who are campaigning for 'balanced migration' said the figures were a milestone in the immigration debate.
Beyond Europe, England's population density is among the highest in the world. Of countries with a population of at least 10million, England ranks third in density after Bangladesh (1,045 per sq km) and South Korea (498 per sq km).

For another comparison, Red China is 140, India is 329 and the US is 31.
Yeah, I was under the impression the higher the population density the more crime you had as well as the general health problems associated with it. ie Stress, etc.

On a sq km basis - to compare with England - my state is 438, my county is 503, my township is 623 and my town is 409.
Arizona has 56/sq.mi. population density. Makes it nice.
I don’t know what is going on with the Brits. They use to be a tough people but now they are letting other people take them over. In time, they will be a muslim nation. Is this our future also?
South Dakota has 10/sq mi, which goes down to about 2/sq mi when you take out the two biggest towns. That’s about right.
Not necessarily. Some cities have extremely high population density and very low crime, Singapore for example. I think that corruption is probably the real determinant when it comes to crime. Societies that tolerate corruption nearly always have high crime rates and the more corrupt the society the worse the crime.
Well, Hong Kong and Singapore has 16,000/sq mile. S. Korea has 1,200 pe square mile, and Zimbabwe has 85/sq mi, Haiti has 335 /sq. km (775 / sq mi).
There is not a lot of correlation between population density and wealth. Many of the poorest countries are not denseley populated at all.
England is also blessed with a large percentage of useable land.

As Tony Blair once said about the U.S., “A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in and how many want out.” This applies here as well.

However, Asian cultures are more ‘collective’ than ours in many ways. In general, the crime tends to be down, but the flip side allows for more Gov’t power and structure.
That's an important point. My city is mostly level with a good aquifer underneath. It's easy to support 2700+ per sq mile. Most of the county is covered with steep mountains. It's fine for hunting and off road vehicle activity. Poor as a place to live. The mountains have snow on them from October to April. Some of the "flat" areas are lava flows. You can't do much on a lava flow.
Land that's impossible to build on, due to council control. If you have 100 acres of land in the UK, just try to get permission to build a single family house on it.
The UK has loads of usable land, there's no doubt about that, but that's mostly farms, with the population jammed into cities all throughout the country. Most people live in abysmal row houses, packed tighter than sardines, and the single family house is the exception there.

While there is a large population around London, which is sprawling in size, one cannot escape the throngs that live along the south to north axis that runs from Southampton to Newcastle (and beyond).
Unless you're in the remotest parts of Scotland and Wales, it's next to impossible to avoid people as well as the unending traffic.
The UK is hemorrhaging its native population, and the two reasons that most ex-pats give for moving out of England (often to France) is 1) overcrowding, and 2) the 'darkening' of its citizenry (being overrun with Muslims).
Looks like the skipped Scotland and Northern Ireland. They are barren in comparison. Wales is probably close to England.
