Battleground Poll

Has some fascinating stuff. One, age appears to be a much bigger drag for McCain than race is for Obama (25% say their friends or neighbors are uncomfortable voting for a 72-year old; 6% say they are uncomfortable voting for an African-American). I'm interested in how McCain has fared in some of the personal attribute questions. He's closed the gap in "fights for people like me" from 53% to 33% in May, to 48% to 42% now; closed the gap on "will unite the country" from 53% to 33% in May to 47% to 39% now; and tied Obama on "can reduce gas and energy prices" after Obama had led 50% to 31% in May. There's still a big gap on "handling the health care issue," although Obama led 61% to 24% in May, and now it's 52% to 34%. Maybe McCain should talk about the issue more?

Yes, McCain should be talking more about health care... he needs to make some adjustments though... if he doesn't he's going to lose... he needs to show his policies aren't generic, deft, and unimaginative... I have some suggestions... if there's any McCain campaign staffers out there email me at yarrrr@mail.com ... I've been harping over email about this for the past few days...

“6% say they are uncomfortable voting for an African-American).”

How many people would publicly admit it? The problem here is that we live in such a racially charged and intimidating environment that the public’s true feelings about voting for an Afro-American won’t be known until the election.

What is the response to “Are you comfortable voting for a Marxist?”

How in heck do they know what their friends and neighbors are comfortable with? How many times have you heard “He was such a quiet man.” when neighbors are asked about the serial killer that lived next door for 25 years?...................

Diane Feinstein will be 77 when/if she runs for Calif. Governor in 2 years.

I guess she should forget it.

Maybe this poll is correct and maybe it isn't, but what is evident to even the most unobservant person is the fact that they didn't ask whom are you voting for, regardless of age or race? This poll proves nothing, just another attempt to shill for Obamaosama. How can this poll be true when the left tells us constantly that the people not voting for bozObama are all racists? It would seem to me that the percentage not comfortable voting for an african American would equal the percent of McCain/Palin voters at this point if the racist charges are correct.

The left contradicts themselves constantly and should be brought to task for it.

BTW, why is the McCain campaign not coming out with new ads? Are they biding their time, saving their resources for the last few weeks(which, by my years of experience and keeping track or elections, are the most important ones to attack in, especially the last 4 days or so before the election)? They should still put out some ads, not refuting charges, but adding fuel to bozObama's sins and crimes so he stays on the defensive.

That is just a “temperature” question Red Badge, as in the respondent probably won’t vote for the 72 yr old, but they play it off on their neighbor/friend instead.

I’m not buying that 6% either, but until the voting starts.

Bingo! How many people are going to admit to a pollster, to anyone, that they’re uncomfortable voting for an AA...I’m surprised it’s 6%, I think it’d be closer to 2%.

Let’s use our head here. So 25% say they are “uncomfortable voting for a 72 year old? Isn’t that the same as saying 75% are NOT uncomfortable voting for a 72 year old? And let’s look at that 25% number. Isn’t that about the % of the far left (moonbat)?

Was there a question about how they felt about voting for a candidate with NO executive experience and only 1.5 years in the Senate before he began running for president? No? I wonder why?

In looking at the trend lines in the questions it seems that almost without exception all the movement is toward McCain and away from Obama. McCain and Palin need to be out there day after day pounding home their America First message with highlights on new energy sources coupled with alternative future sources and also his strong suit of national security.

Despite what people say about what is most important to them, their safety and that of their families is the most important thing.

The real question is how many people who would otherwise be disposed to vote for a Democrat won’t because the candidate is black. Then you offset this number with the number of people who specifically vote for the candidate BECAUSE he’s black.

Why does everyone panic here. The Poll shows McCain up 46 to 40 which is exactly where Bush was in 2004 in the same poll !
Go sign up and work the ground game for the McCain - Palin campaign because there alot of dead union voters out there !

How dumb to you have to be to look at the policies of both these candidates and then make a decision based on age? It means 25% of the electorate has no clue what the candidates stand for. I don’t recall a campaign in which both candidates were any further apart on their views.

”6% say they are uncomfortable voting for an African-American”

I would love to see a brake down of that figure. I would best around 90% are democrats.

Maybe this poll is correct and maybe it isn't, but what is evident to even the most unobservant person is the fact that they didn't ask whom are you voting for, regardless of age or race?

Actually, it's evident to an even marginally-observant person that they did indeed ask that question. It's a comprehensive and very well-respected poll; this post is just from Rich Lowry's analysis over at NRO's The Corner blog.

Sigh...you really need to read this more carefully. First of all, it doesn't ask people if they are uncomfortable voting for an African-American; it asks people if their friends are uncomfortable doing so (because nobody will admit that about themselves). Secondly, it's not shilling for Obama. The Battleground Poll is run by two polling firms; one is a Republican firm and the other a Democrat firm.

Read the question more closely - they ask the person if their *friends and neighbors* would be uncomfortable doing so, not if they themselves would be. People are much more likely to say "my neighbor's a racist" than "I'm a racist."

Good point...and definitely could make a difference I guess Still are most people willing to say, “Yeah, my friends are racist.”

We’ve lived in an integrated neighborhood for almost 20 years. We have acquaintances who would not, under any circumstances, buy a home in our neighborhood even though we have the lowest crime rate in the city and the neighborhood is upper middle class, lovely homes, beautiful scenery.

But if a pollster asked me why my acquaintances wouldn’t buy in this neighborhood, I don’t think I’d say it’s because a black person might be their neighbor....even though that might be their motivation, I can’t really judge their hearts, so I’m very reluctant to slap a racist label on anyone.

Sigh yourself. The part of the poll I was talking about was a shill for the dems. The questions asked were useless and only served one purpose and that was to promote the ageism that the Democrats are hyping to keep people from voting for McCain.

People who use "sigh" in their posts are condescending jerks. Not an opinion, but a fact.
