Alaska AG: Troopergate witnesses won't testify
AP ^

Posted on 09/16/2008 7:28:45 PM PDT by Chet 99

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Alaska's attorney general says state employees subpoenaed in the investigation of Gov. Sarah Palin will not testify.

In a letter to the Democratic state senator overseeing the investigation, Attorney General Talis Colberg asks that the subpoenas be withdrawn. He also says the employees will not appear before the investigator unless either the full state Senate or the entire Alaska Legislature votes to compel their testimony.

It is about time this stupid witch hunt got shut down. This is the same tactic Obama has tried in his other races - trying to force opponents off the ballot.

This is a good thing. These employees should not be asked to testify when everyone knows that this is just a fishing expedition by the Alaskan “good old boys” network. Why needlessly open yourself up to “perjury” charges. That’s what a fiasco like this is usually all about anyway. They issue subpoenas when they don’t have anything else.

So, the Alaska AG is telling this Democratic Hanging Committee to stick it.

I am impressed.

It looks like the investigation is dead. The Alaska Legislature is controlled by the GOP and it would have to vote to enforce any subpoenas. Not going to happen.

“Sorry for the double post. I don’t know what’s going on with this thing.”

It’s been happening to everyone. I am sure Jim and staff are working on it. They are installing some new servers to deal with the ever increasing load, and that might be the source of the double posts.

What’s worse is when you throw a lynching party and people show up... except instead of lynching the intended victim, they lynch *you*.

Of course, it will be played up as “Palin is terrified. She has a lot to hide”. It might make more sense if they addressed the issue vocally, exposed it for what it was , and let the public chew on that for awhile. Instead, it will receive just enough exposure and out-of-context attention to make it look like a desperate move on Palin’s behalf by her own “old-boy network” that she left there.

Is it the Alaska AG telling the committee this...or the employees via their lawyers? The article is short on info.

I got the impression it was the Alaska AG on behalf of the employees of the state. Don’t know how Todd Palin would fit into that though.

Just my opinion, but it looks to me like the earlier release of the damaging emails demonstrating insubordination made them realize Gov. Palin would come out of this fully justified.

Killing this now allows them to leave the issue “out there” for the MSM to try to inflict more damage while keeping the truth from coming to light.

I wonder how many times the inference will be made to “troopergate” on MSNBC and how the Governor “got off” and must have been applying more pressure to compel employees not to testify. The issue remains a “seriousness of the charge” issue instead of “vindicated”.

I just want to say -- on Greta's show I just saw an interview of Sarah Palin a few years ago when she was Mayor of Wasilla. She had her hair down and stylish and wasn't wearing glasses.

What a heart throb....

Oh, my.

The Democrats were hoping to launch an October Surprise in Alaska. They have been thwarted but they're not giving up.

Now it will probably be one of the many "October surprises" we will see from the media in the final week of the campaign.
