This morning President Bush met with General David Petraeus in the Oval Office of the White House. After serving as the Commander of Multi-National Forces in Iraq for 19 months, General Petraeus was promoted to Commander of Central Command (CENTCOM). The President congratulated the General for his successful mission in Iraq. (Transcript)
General David Petraeus was asked to do a very difficult job and he did it with distinction and honor. He was a part of the planning for the surge; he implemented the surge, along with a lot of other brave people; and the United States and the world is better off because of it.
President Bush also took this opportunity to condemn the embassy bombing in Yemen.
There were security forces that lost their lives there and we send our condolences to their families. This attack is a reminder that we are at war with extremists who will murder innocent people to achieve their ideological objectives.
Later today, the President welcomed Panamanian President Martin Torrijos Espino to the Oval Office. Nancy Pelosi and her 9% Congress have been obstructing trade legislation between the US and Panama for several months now, which is causing an economic strain for our ally.
One key issue, of course, is the free trade agreement between the United States and Panama; Congress needs to get it done. This is important for our -- both our nations, it's important for our economies, and it's important for our friendship. And I appreciate you [President Espino] coming to talk to members of Congress. I think it is most useful.
President & Mrs. Bush will host a formal state dinner for President Espino tonight at the White House. (This is their second state dinner this week, but only their eighth since President Bush has been in office.)
First Lady Laura Bush marked Constitution Day with a ceremony for school children in the East Room of the White House this morning. (Transcript)
And on his second day in Afghanistan Secretary of Defense Robert Gates met with President Hamid Karzai at the presidential palace in Kabul.

Hello

I haven’t been able to get on for HOURS again tonight!!!!!!!!!!
You sure did--by the skin of your teeth :)
Hi All
I love and respect our President but tonight I slightly upset with him...why haven't he asked for “prime time “ TV coverage and spoke to the American people about what is happening to our 401’s and the economy?
he is the leader of this great country and I feel he should be out there telling us “what to expect”
I know his term is coming to an end but not until Jan.20,2009 and we Need his leadership, now as much as we did on Sept.11,2001
talk to us Mr. President.
Same here. FR died just as I put the Dose Ping through. I've been refreshing the page ever since, about to give up.
Yeah..I was wondering why I hadn’t heard from you with a pingy dingy ;-)
Hi Jonny! Thanks for the dose.
Thanks for the dose
President Bush: The United States is fortunate to have great men and women who volunteer to serve in a time of danger. I have been incredibly impressed by the sacrifice of our troops who have been put in harm's way, and I've been incredibly impressed by the level of leadership for those troops.General David Petraeus was asked to do a very difficult job and he did it with distinction and honor. He was a part of the planning for the surge; he implemented the surge, along with a lot of other brave people; and the United States and the world is better off because of it.
The ping never went through did it.
Always something ...
They hacked Greta’s poll tonight as well.
