The Dow Jones industrial average rebounded a bit Tuesday, but the true index for measuring hard times - the High End Girlfriend Index - was off the charts.
The HEGI is charted by Edward Hayes, a noted lawyer who started as a Bronx homicide prosecutor but has become the go-to guy among the city's moneyed classes when promises are broken.

I guess I"ve been desperate for quit a while then
over here
So , us tall, ugly 40-year-old guys still have a shot?
As another tall, ugly 40 (ish) guy, I say, no. My 401K just isn't big enough.
The last few lines nail it.
“It’s a failure of a whole way of life,” Hayes says. “They have no concept of, ‘I’m managing somebody else’s money and have to be careful.’ It’s, ‘How can I make as much as I can for myself?’” The sub-slime at the very top figure to remain rich, no matter how many other people are hurt, no matter how bad the HEGI gets. “How come nobody goes to jail?” Hayes wonders.
Get going on making that money...
On the bright side, the price of High End Girl Friends is bound to fall some day. There is resistance, but once the HEGF Bubble bursts, you’ll be able to pick up some bargains!
True. Times are tough.
My father who is a WWII vet and voted for Goldwater floated the idea that they should take away all their gains just like they do to the drug dealers.
Reposes their bank accounts homes and even their children's braces
Isn't this "high-end girlfriend" then otherwise known as a whore?
Your dad has the right idea. Only when we impose some sort of punishment as he advocates (as do I) will we see a disincentive to do so again in the future.
As it now stands, there are no disincentives. And that should be troubling to everyone.
Depends on what they mean by “high end quality”. To me, a high end quality girlfriend is a girlfriend that is strong, independent, speaks her mind, can work her way out of a jam, is creative and can appreciate the finer and not so fine things in life. So pretty much, any bimbo out there with a tiny waist and big boobs and who has a room temperature IQ is *not* high quality.
Cold-cash deal --> prostitute
Cold-cash laundered through spending accounts, jewels, cars, and houses --> high-end girl friend/ trophy wife.
Definitely Bush’s fault!
"So you're telling me there's a chance?"
She's married but I have a crush of former race car driver Ricardo Patrese wife after watching this video ... to bad I don't speak Italian
The primary problem with the market is a strong diconnect between the stockholders and the managers.
Stockholders have seen their power diluted with the modern economy, where so much is held in mutual funds.
Twenty years ago I thought that just the opposite would happen. That the fund managers (as large stock holders) would pool the influence of stockholders and put real pressure on the management, but this has not occured.
If there is to be new regulation, it should be in providing more oversight by the stockholders. Although technology now allows for a great deal of online interaction in stockholder meetings, it is not done. And there are many good possibilities for electronic proxy by issue.
I hate the notion of “maximum salaries”, but stockholders have been getting robbed for decades by incestous management boards. Full disclosure of stock options with stockholder up/down votes might have quite a positive effect.
I hate the notion of maximum salaries, “
A salary is what will show up on the weekly paycheck. The bonuses, benefits and perks that will be included in the full package are the parts that the stockholders don’t see.
I think this is already happening....it's called the passage of time. Myself, I'd rather have a girl who's pretty on the inside - that doesn't degrade over time.
Re: If there is to be new regulation, it should be in providing more oversight by the stockholders
I have always said that individual shareholders (how they would be determined is yet to be determined) should sit on every BOD.
The people there now are clearly not serving the interests of the individual investor.
It is a radical idea, but also one whose time has come.
