Charles Krauthammer on Special Report w/Brit Hume:

What's going to happen [solutions by Paulson,Bernanke,Bush,Congress] is going to happen within a week or ten days and it will become law. It's going to be in place.

By election day and certain by inauguration day all of this new New Deal is going to be established and whatever McCain and Obama recommends today is absolutely irrelevant.

Secondly, it's robbing all of their recommendations of what they would do in office. It's being drained away. We are going to be spending the next 2-5 years working off this problem and it's going to eat up every available dollar in the Treasury. There will not be a dollar for a new healthcare system or a green revolution in energy or for the kind of tax cuts McCain is advocating.

I think it sort of neutralizes...makes irrelevant all of their economic recommendations.

He makes a good point.

Silver lining. And I would not be so quick to rule out tax cuts. They may wind up being absolutely necessary the economy sits around in the doldroms.

We really couldn’t afford a $286 billion farm bill, either.
They’ll just fire up the printing presses to pay for their pet scams. Otherwise, they have no power. They would rather inflate us into oblivion than not have the ability to reward their patrons.

**There better be tax cuts.**

IF GOP has any testicular fortitude left.. Insert in this bill ... TO PAY FOR IT ALL ... OPEN ANWR, ENTIRE Continental SHELF and Gulf of Mexico. That should easily offset any further.

Damn ... Someone shoot me ... I’m starting to think like a DEM

That one's totally dead, now. It didn't happen during six years of Republican control - no way it happens with RTC II looming.

Gives the Democrat Congress and Obama all the more reason to implement a tax structure from England in the ‘60’s however (love how Murdoch pointed out the era of Obama’s thinking on this), however, which is still a major, major difference.

And it’s an obvious point. My first thought in all of this was that Obama now has NOTHING to offer domestically.

Now McCain should demonstrate that he is serious by being honest with the American people, saying it’s time to tighten up the belt for a few years, and to be mad as hell, enough to vote out the creeps that ignored warning after warning that this was coming. Along with Democrats, that includes compassionate Republicans who have no spine.

Obama would never take such a line, because this election is about him, not the American people.

The only alternative to a “blood, tears, and sweat” approach is a nation of centralized planned economies, and we are 80% of the way there.

Effective for 2008 tax year you think? I need that $2,700 this year to finish master’s degree.

I'm afraid that whoever wins the White House will be walking into a political and financial black hole. The inertia created by the spendspendspend culture of W and Congress is biting us in the arse - HARD.

Ironically, inflation is the biggest fear for the fat cats. If Joe Blow owes his credit card companies $30,000 and inflation reduces the value of that $30,000 to $20,000, guess who eats the $10,000 worth of "value"? Times that by millions and then add mortgage debt, student loan debt, car loan debt, etc., etc.

If there is any significant inflation, it ain't gonna be Joe Blow who takes it up the patootie. People who owe the most will "gain" the most.

Bad idea. it's not the POTUS job to rewrite legislation.

Congress needs to get it's act together, ban earmarks and pass bills the President can sign.

If they can't it's the PEOPLES JOB TO THROW THEM OUT

We ultimately get the government we vote for
