An AP-Yahoo News poll has found one-third of white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks - many calling them "lazy," "violent" or responsible for their own troubles.
The poll, conducted with Stanford University, suggests that the percentage of voters who may turn away from Obama because of his race could easily be larger than the final difference between the candidates in 2004 - about two and one-half percentage points.
Certainly, Republican John McCain has his own obstacles: He's an ally of an unpopular president and would be the nation's oldest first-term president. But Obama faces this: 40 percent of all white Americans hold at least a partly negative view toward blacks, and that includes many Democrats and independents.
More than a third of all white Democrats and independents - voters Obama can't win the White House without - agreed with at least one negative adjective about blacks, according to the survey, and they are significantly less likely to vote for Obama than those who don't have such views.
Such numbers are a harsh dose of reality in a campaign for the history books. Obama, the first black candidate with a serious shot at the presidency, accepted the Democratic nomination on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, a seminal moment for a nation that enshrined slavery in its Constitution.
"There are a lot fewer bigots than there were 50 years ago, but that doesn't mean there's only a few bigots," said Stanford political scientist Paul Sniderman who helped analyze the exhaustive survey.
The pollsters set out to determine why Obama is locked in a close race with McCain even as the political landscape seems to favor Democrats.

Well, I do find white libs to be some of the most racist people around, despite attempts to cover it up. Hence, I’m counting on the margin of error in most polls to be in favor of McCain owing to this fact.

I don’t think this is being reflected in the polls in any significant way.
Many white people, will go into the poll booth, and vote for Obama BECAUSE he is black. They know his ideas are not good for America. HOW wonderful if the black community would have put up a candidate that was moderate, attended a multi cultural church, and had a history that was long enough for people to see the record. This candidate really hasn’t proved he can be tough in tough times.
In today’s politically correct society, it is considered “racist” if you don’t blame a minority’s problems on the white devil.

This article has been run by every major press outlet today. I’ve seen it on FR many times, but under a different title every time, so searching to see if it’s already posted won’t help. Wonder why they’ve chosen to put this info out now...just when Obama seems to be “rising” in the national polls.

BHO is running for Pres b/c he is Black. No way a white BHO gets 95% of the Black vote in the dem primary. Also, no questions were asked how many minorities harbor negative feelings about whites, and won’t vote for a white in a race such as this.
The same people who voted against Kerry and Gore are voting against BHO. Once we were just stupid - now we are stupid and racist.
