North Carolina is one of several traditionally Republican states where John McCain just cant quite seem to pull away from Barack Obama. The Republican candidate has been at least slightly ahead in six of the seven monthly polls conducted in the state and was tied in the seventh. But, his advantage has always remained in single digits, often the low single digits.
This month, its more of the same as the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds McCain ahead 50% to 47%. Thats not too much different than the results from a month ago.
Eighty-one percent (81%) of Obama supporters are voting for their candidate with enthusiasm while 15% are voting primarily against McCain. Sixty-two percent (62%) of McCain voters are casting their votes with enthusiasm while 34% are voting primarily against Obama.
As always, the racial divide is sharp. In the Tar Heel State, Obama is supported by 98% of African-Americans while McCain currently earns the vote from 66% of White voters. McCain attracts 88% of Republicans while Obama has 79% support from Democrats (Full demographic crosstabs are available to Premium Members).

Somebody’s lying, big time, or we are in deep doo-doo.
Even with Edwards on the Demo ticket, Kerry could only muster 44% of the vote there in 2004. Unless there has been a huge influx of lefties since then, this poll sounds a bit off. Still, a lead is a lead. If McCain should take the state only narrowly, he still gets those crucial electorals.
I don’t know much about NC politics, but to have an incumbent Senator trailing by 6 points is not good.
..Bush won by over 12 points in ‘04—this and the Minnesota poll are wrong...
I hate to say this, but I am starting to question the Ras polling. This one is just out there. And that’s good news, because it may mean that McCain is tied or ahead in states such as MI or PA where Ras has a ‘close’ race.
The only “Obama” bumper stickers I see, are almost always either on a vehicle driven by a minority, or an old and battered Volvo covered with “Moonbat” stickers. I rarely see an Obama placard in front yards, and when I do they are again usually minority home-owners.
McCain/Palin stickers abound however, as well as a LOT of “NoBama” 08 which can be deceptive at first glance. I always give them a thumbs-up with a smile when I see them in traffic.
Given those limited sightings, I hope the numbers work in McCain’s favor.
Don’t worry about this bogus poll. Please.
Some Dem group—Soros?? is supposed to be sending money here to NC to help that witch Hagan and Obama. I have been seeing lots more Obama ads in the last week on TV
My thoughts exactly.
I’m a lifelong North Carolinian and I think that longterm the state is trending away from the GOP. Sad to say but true. The reason is the influx of two groups. The first are a ton of people from up north and other parts of the US who come to the triangle area to work in the tech/pharmaceutical industry and at the universities. That area tends to be a Dem area and its where our population growth is.
The second is the latino population. Just go to an elementary school in much of the state. You’ll be stunned at how high the percentage of latino kids you’ll find. Most of them are citizens and their parents are breeding like rabbits and turning out new citizens all the time. You can bet we won’t be winning a majority of that vote without moving even more to the left on entitlements and illegal immigration.
I’m not being negative, but I think Obama has a real shot at winning this election. I say that as a cautionary note, warning against overconfidence at this point.
“Because we “hired” a moderate, or what can sometimes be described a RINO, to represent us in the Presidential contest this year when the base, particularly so in NC, is conservative? “
so NC would rather vote for a Marxist than a “Moderate”? yeah that makes sense.
Yes, poll manipulation; "Push Polling."How is this a "push poll"?
Now THAT is racist.
You nailed it. Why not call it what it is plain ans simple?
It is a push poll because someone here doesn't like the results.
“NC has become a wasteland of Yankees and Mexicans. I wouldn’t be shocked to the state go blue. We’re like a sanctuary state for ignorant voters. “
I just posted something similar. IMO we take it this time and probably the next. By 2016 I bet we’ll be a rat state.
“You nailed it. Why not call it what it is plain ans simple? “
Didn’t you get the memo? Only white people can be racist!
The last ‘Rat presidential candidate to win in NC was Carter, who likewise had the ability to pass himself off as a conservative in 1976. No ‘Rat presidential contender has carried the state since. It ain't gonna be a black radical leftist named Barack Hussein Obama who breaks the GOP streak.
I learned everything I needed to know about SCPubbie by looking at his/her/its profile ..
