Poll: Palin helping GOP with women (HUGE INCREASE SINCE JULY)

The selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as Republican U.S. vice presidential nominee has greatly increased the GOP ticket's appeal to women, a poll indicates.

Since she was chosen by Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain of Arizona, Palin has helped the GOP ticket erase a once-wide lead held by Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois on the question of who best understands women's issues, Politico, a Washington publication, reported Monday.

Citing a survey by pollsters Kellyanne Conway and Celinda Lake for Lifetime Television, the Web site said the McCain-Palin team holds a 44 percent-to-42 percent lead over the Democratic ticket on who has a "better understanding of women and what is important" to them. Obama held a 52 percent-to-18 percent lead on the question in July, the pollsters said.

Breaking it down further, age was biggest determining factor. Young women, ages 18-34, chose the Democratic ticket as being more empathetic to their needs, while women aged 35-64 went for the McCain-Palin ticket, the Web site said.

The Lifetime Television poll, which surveyed 534 likely female voters, was conducted Sept. 11-15 and has a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.

Older women vote with MUCH more frequency than do younger women: This is GREAT news, IMO.

Something doesn’t gel... McCain was down by the same amount if not more when his female support was much lower. He gains all these women voters and he is still down? Don’t doubt it, but don’t understand it either.

The media has been steadfastly avoiding the biggest stories in this election.

!. Obama, like all democrats needs a big majority of women to vote for him to offset the beating they always take amongst men. Does anyone doubt that McCain is going to close the gap and possibly even WIN the female vote?

2. Obama needs 90+% of his base to win the election, he is nowhere close to that.

All leading signs and indicators are pointing to a landslide, they just won’t report it.

Ditto. I keep seeing internals about how McCain is gaining a majority among independents, women, Catholics and stealing Reagan Dems from BHO, yet he is behind still by 3 to 4 points? I call BS on the polling companies. Rush is right. If BHO is not leading by ten, he is toast.

which is why the Obama camp sent Michelle to Food Network to appear on a cooking show. Somehow, they think she is going to bring back female voters.

How can Obama win without a heavy support from women? Most men tend to vote Republican.

It seems that there is something wrong in the general polls that show Obama and McCain almost tied.

Kellyanne Conway is a Republican pollster.

Celinda Lake is a Democrat pollster.

That makes it a very good chance that neither side gets the “special sauce” treatment.

Reliable poll.

I think that all these polls that show obama with the lead are designed to demoralize the base, like the exit polls in the 2004 race. There’s no way on earth McCain could be leading or tied with female voters and not be leading this race, no way.

Celinda is a nice lady. She isn’t a slobbering dog like most of these Democrats.
