Racism Could Hurt Obama in Pennsylvania
U.S. News ^

Posted on 09/23/2008 12:35:46 PM PDT by Chet 99

MEDIA, Pa.—On a cigarette break outside the Seven Stones coffee house yesterday, Ashleigh Piazza, 23, did not hesitate when asked how Democratic nominee Barack Obama's race could affect his success here in southeastern Pennsylvania.

"It's kind of sad to say, but I think it's a major issue," said Piazza, a file clerk at the nearby Delaware County Courthouse, where in a few hours GOP nominee John McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin, would hold a rally. "There's lots of talk about his race around town," says Piazza. An Obama supporter even offered Piazza's mom $40 at a local bar the other night, she says, just to listen to him make a case for the Illinois senator.

Her coworker Jackie Zane, 23, said simply: "There is a lot going on around the race issue. Some say it just doesn't look right."

The young women, both raised Catholic, didn't know it, but as they were talking about the prospects of Obama's effort to become the first black president, a new poll was released suggesting that their hyperlocal analysis was reflected nationwide. Obama's multiracial background—his mother is white and father is black—could lose him up to 6 percentage points in what is expected to be a close fall contest against McCain, according to an AP-Yahoo survey conducted between August 27 and September 5. The survey was the first one of its kind that attempted to get at a subject that both the media and voters themselves have found difficult to talk about: how racism could affect the November outcome.

How many of these have we read in the last week? A dozen? They must really be getting worried out there.

These stories have two purposes: 1- Convince white suburban swing voters that a vote against Obama is a vote for racism. 2- Create a built in excuse to explain Obama’s loss.

DING! DING! DING! You win the prize. The number of these stories is increasing by the day. Things really must be looking bad in their internals.

The really funny thing about it is that it will be their own cities they burn.

Thank you Continental Congress for the 2nd Amendment!

Damn straight it will. Pennsylvanians don’t take kindly to racists like 0bama.

Saying that his Grandmother (who raised him) was a TYPICAL WHITE PERSON sure didn't help with the Blue Collar democrats --they ain't the same as the guilt ridden college boob democrats

That statement shows how out of touch his writers are with the union/ blue collar type base

Anyone else notice that the frequency of these ‘If Obama Loses It Will Be Because Of Whitey’ stories have increased over the last three or four weeks? Do you think they’re seeing the writing on the wall and are already looking for a scapegoat?

It’s more than just 0bama’s “typical white person” comment.
More to the point, it’s his membership to a “Kill Whitey” Church and his talk about “white folks’ greed.”

Sounds to me like this race baiting theme is coming from the Axelrod playbook. He probably has his team of experts spreading this race issue to fuel the fire. Trying to make people feel like they are bigots if they do not vote for Obama. I know I am voting for the person whom I trust with our country and color does not matter....it’s what’s beneath the skin that does. This election is the dirtiest I have ever seen.

Quid pro quo, some will vote for Obama because he is black, others won’t vote for him because he is black, so goes it, ignorance canceling out ignorance, everything being even in the end.

Obama saying that Republicans will try to say “did I mention he’s black?” to hurt Obama in the 2008 elections.

I had an argument with my favorite BO lib the other day and he used that line too. He also kept on insisting Gov Palin isn't qualified.

He kept insisting that it was because BO didn't look like any other presidents on US paper money. I finally threw that back at him and said "Well, I don't think there are any FEMALES on paper money either." The look of his shock was priceless.

The reason the Dems are panicking about Pennsylvania is not rascism (though they’re playing that card), its the union vote.

In a union shop, the union owns your job, not the employer. If a pollster calls a union member or his family, they will hear “Obama all the way”. They will hear this because there is no way the person being polled can verify that the poll is really that and not some union sponsored loyalty test.

Even though ideologically many union members are Republican, they will say “Obama all the way” to anyone that asks avoid any potential reprisals. What happens in the privacy of the voting booth is something else.

The fact that Obama and McCain are tied in Pennsylvania means that McCain will carry the state handily.

I must say I’ve been surprised to see union members speaking out for McCain in local media. My uncle - union all his life - said the Democrats have forgotten two things. 1) It’s not the party it used to be, and 2) The Silent Majority.

You know, everything that you have stated may be true. But you must calm down, lower your blood pressure in return. Why not have yourself a nice mug of hot chocolate.

“the real reason is race. LOL!!!!!!”

Someone alluded to the race thing when I said I wouldn’t vote for Obama and I told them I’d supported Alan Keyes, and he’s actually 100% black as opposed to Obama’s 50%. That shut ‘im up!

Also, what’s with this “undecided” demographic? I cannot believe that there are people who are truly undecided. How can a person not have an opinion? Please...
