Caught In An AP Lie: Dan Eggen/WP & Johanna Neuman/LA Times
Free Republic and Online News ^ | September 24, 2008 | AP anon, Dan Eggen & Johanna Neuman

Posted on 09/24/2008 6:29:49 PM PDT by an amused spectator

On an earlier thread (Laura Bush: Palin lacks foreign policy experience (AP spin and not even close to accurate)), Freeper nuvista revealed that the Associated Press took a Laura Bush/CNN interview and deliberately distorted it to make a hitpiece they could spread all over the Net.

Unfortunately, YouTube has a copy of the very same interview, proving beyond a doubt that the interview was distorted to make Laura Bush "say" something she didn't say:

YouTube: Laura Bush: "Thrilled" About Sarah Palin

Upon searching for the anonymous AP author of the hitpiece, I discovered that Dan Eggen of The Washington Post and Johanna Neuman of The Los Angeles Times had both taken the AP hitline and run with it, fleshing it out, but basically presenting the same piece:

Dan Eggen - First Lady: Palin Lacks Foreign Policy Experience

Johanna Neuman - Laura Bush: Sarah Palin lacks foreign experience but is a 'very quick study'

Perhaps some enterprising Freepers can email these two and ask them to explain their articles in light of the YouTube video which we have in our possession:

This comment was taken completely out of context. I feel sorry for Laura. I hope that Republicans will someday figure out the the “national media” is their enemy. The “media” is nothing but a bunch of Marxist Obamanoids.

Actually, the lie seems to begin with CNN. Laura Bush did NOT say that Sarah Palin lacks experience. But the subtitle or bottom ticker on CNN says that she lacks foreign policy experience.

That’s not Laura Bush. That’s CNN misinterpreting what she said—in fact, lying about it.

The MSM is made up of folks pretty much like Beavis and Butthead.

They do stupid things like this and then laugh and snicker about it, snorking snot into their hands and smearing it across their chests.

Oh, yes, we know these people.

Gad!

Maybe you could do the honors here, kristinn.

It would be great to have FR's official spokesdude put these two on the spot.

The AP put it to paper, anonymously, then spread the manure around to its minions in the MSM.

See The AP: When You Absolutely, Positively Have To Get Your Mouth Stuffed with Words You Didn't Say. That will 'splain it all.

Can someone post the text of what LB actually said? (Cant watch youtube here.) Thanks. The subject was a comparison between Sarah Palin and Condi Rice (Laura bush's first choice for VP nominee). Laura Bush said ,and I am paraphrasing, (Sarah doesn't have that kind of (Condi's) experience, but she is a quick study...)

She should have said she has as much foreign policy experience as Obama. That is the winning argument that is not being made by the republicans. What do we need to do, send out a f@@@ing memo to everyone to tell them what the winnning talking point is? The press is trying to get someone to admit that she lacks the experience, so it is not like she should not have been ready for the question.

On the original thread, more than a few FReepers bought into the lie calling both Laura and the President (for good measure) stupid. Most of those doing the bashing were newbies (and maybe trolls) but some have been around here for a few years. Its as if the newbies started it and the older members jumped in later. Some of those falling for it have been around for a few years. nuvista finally got the quote right and now its on YouTube.

The newbies are for the most part plants from DU or Kos and like to stir things up and start flame wars. Remember that keeping Obama out of power is our final goal and bypass them or, if they get too obnoxious, hit abuse.

Zain Verjee:

"I spoke to you a while back, and you said at the time that Condoleeza Rice, the Secretary of State, [Laura Bush interjects, laughing: "was my choice"], was your choice (Laura Bush interjects: "for the female", laughs) for the female ticket, the vice presidential (Laura Bush interjects: "or presidential, sure") nominee or, exactly, or on the presidential ticket. Sarah Palin has now emerged as the choice." (Laura Bush: "That's right!") "Do you have as much confidence in her as you did then, in Secretary Rice?"

Laura Bush:

"I have a lot of confidence in Sarah Palin."

"She's got a lot of really good common sense. And I think that's very important. She also has executive experience from being a governor and a mayor."

"And I'm thrilled to have the chance to vote for Sarah Palin on the Republican ticket."

(Zain Verjee laughs): "Do you think she has the kind of foreign policy experience that everyone's criticizing her... [trails off]"

[Laura Bush talks over Zain Verjee] "Well, obviously, of course she doesn't have that - she had - you know - that's not been her role. But I think she's a very quick study. And, fortunately, John McCain does have that sort of experience."

The first I heard of this was from some skank, Sara somebody, on a Yahoo link. I read the piece it it was nothing but a Commie lib thrashing of Sara Palin. Not journalism. These are just a bunch of “columnists” regurgitating DNC talking points. They all said the same exact thing.

See my post #17 - I transcribed it.

It's pretty clear Laura was talking about Condi compared to Sarah.
