WASHINGTON (AP) -- Even for a party whose president suffers dismal approval ratings, whose legislative wing lost control of Congress and whose presidential nominee trails in the polls, it was a remarkably bad day for Republicans.
... snip ...
"This is the president's own party," said Rep. Barney Frank, a top Democratic negotiator who attended both meetings. "I don't think a president has been repudiated so strongly by the congressional wing of his own party in a long time."

At one point in the White House meeting, according to two officials, McCain voiced support for Ryan's criticisms of the administration's proposal. Frank, a gruff Massachusetts liberal, angrily demanded to know what plan McCain favored.
These officials also said that as tempers flared, Bush struggled at times to maintain control.
At one point, several minutes into the session, Obama said it was time to hear from McCain. According to a Republican who was there, "all he said was, 'I support the principles that House Republicans are fighting for.'"
Some at the table took that to mean the conservatives' alternative proposal, which stands little chance of passage.

The democrats are in a box on this and they know it. This problem was caused by rich liberals, it was sponsered by democrats in DC and main street is furious over the bailout. The republicans are not going to get blamed for not approving a crap bill that gives away 700 billion dollars. The democrats will get blames for not being able to pass a reasonable bill.
When the GOP has a good plan the RATS will then call it bad.
Let John McCain know that we are standing with him if he forces an alternative to this ugly bailout proposal as it now stands.
And Obamalamadingdong said what? Except for the snippet there, there are no words of wisdom, no “leadership” no nutthin.
[spit] Empty suit...waste of good protoplasm.
Their bias is clouding their eyes. Calls from conservatives were running 4/100 for the bailout, ie 96 percent of conservatives didn’t want it. McCain needs the base and McCain opposing Bush is not a bad thing for McCain, it’s a good thing.
Even some dems know they don’t want a bailout in it’s present form.
McCain is gambling again, living up to his image as a “maverick.” The press is missing the point...but that’s okay.
Will it work in the long run, I don’t know, but it’s worth a try, IMHO.
How long before the McCain campaign comes out with an add pointing out how Obama and Dems are wanting to side with the president on his economic solutions while McCain is about CHANGE!
I don’t always get to listen to Glenn, but I heard he had to stop the pitchfork drive when some folks started sending in torches. I often pictured the look on the CNN folks faces as they saw those pitchforks arriving from UPS, Fedex, etc. LOL.
Clip and save, then show anyone who’s on the fence whether or not theres a leftist bias in the press. Good gravy.
LLS
A “bad day” according to the AP means we’re on the right track. Hey AP, your BiaS is showing!
When Joe Mainstreet thinks he has a good system and goes to Vegas and bets trhe family home on a roll of the dice and comes up craps, we do not reward him by bailing him out for making a seriously bad decsision.
Its sad that his family loses their home but we all realize it called LIFE.
But President Bush and the Democrat controlled Congress want you to think that when Joe Wall Street and Joe Main Strret conspire and bets the family home on a roll of the dice because they each think he is beating the system and instead comes up craps, that WE the American taxpayer should bail them out so the poor family does not lose its home and the poor Broker. lender, bank does not go belly up.
Sorry. Don’t really see the difference between Vegas and Wall Street. YOU took a gamble and YOU lost. Why should I pay.
That there's no indication here of Frank's role in the Fannie/Freddie debacle--and that his "companion" of ten years was involved in it, too--shows how laughable this article is.
And the writer doesn't seem to see that McCain is positioning himself to sever that "Bush's third term" malarky.
I think it’s hilarious that the Democratic pundits and Congress are now not only defending Bush but advancing his plan. LOL
Soon, the dumbed down democratic base will start yelling that they have enough votes to pass it, just get it done. Who cares what the House Republicans or McCain does?
I just want the House republicans to hold tight, they have their thumbs in the dyke . They are like David and Goliath..........and we kow who won that one.
A bad day for Bush is a good day for taxpayers.
And fools say the media is not bias towards the dems and collectivism.
Tax payer's $$$ was not squandered and AP calls that a bad day?
As long as silly, petty, American citizens place crooked socialist idiots like Franks and Dodd et all into positions of power, WE the American Taxpayer Citizen will continue to take one in the shorts on a daily basis.
