A $100,000 state grant for a botanic garden in Englewood that then-state Sen. Barack Obama awarded in 2001 to a group headed by a onetime campaign volunteer is now under investigation by the Illinois attorney general amid new questions, prompted by Chicago Sun-Times reports, about whether the money might have been misspent.
The garden was never built. And now state records obtained by the Sun-Times show $65,000 of the grant money went to the wife of Kenny B. Smith, the Obama 2000 congressional campaign volunteer who heads the Chicago Better Housing Association, which was in charge of the project for the blighted South Side neighborhood.

They’ll ignore the $100 million that got thrown away, and the couple million from Rezko for the house, but now this 100k is worth investigating?
This makes me think the conclusion is foregone and it’s just the dinosaur media realizing the partisan bias is catching up to them, and making a show of “investigating” him.
Oh well, at least one of the DOZENS of Uh-bam-uhs fraudulent or criminal associations will finally get some attention.

Not to excuse anything crooked that B. Hussein Obama might have done, but I wonder how often this happens in real political life - the money gets allocated for some project but the project never seems to materialize?
Probably not, the media will move on after mentioning the probe, there's more work to be done in Alaska.....
Possible scandal here. 100,000 may seem small, but most people don’t think so.

Garden to nowhere. This is the problem I have with earmarks, anyway. Most of them are just checks you give out with no accountability that the work will ever get done.

Someone posted a very detailed summary about this a couple of weeks ago. The project was not a complete failure, however, as they did get a gazebo built. I believe they named it “the Barack Obama Gazebo”.
Yep, I agree. And even if it was a theft of $100, that’s news worthy.
