If I were a Republican Strategist right now I would be licking my lips, rubbing my hands together, and probably drooling a bit over the prospect of hanging this sub-prime mess around the necks of the Democrats in general and Barack Obama in particular. Fannie Mae

That’s all well and good but if the news media refuses to report it what are you going to do?
You assume they have a brain. How long did it take them to mention that the “troopergate” trooper threatened to kill Palins father? Actually, I don’t think they ever did.
Who will do it?
This should be a slam-dunk for the ‘Pubbies. McCain can lose gracefully or he can win with the unvarnished, ugly truth.
I think he should win.
The ‘Pubbies should be letting the chips fall where they may, because a heck of a lot more of them will fall on the Democrat side. Instead, they are doing the standard CYA.
Wow! This guy actually gets it! Too bad he’s in Canada. Once again, we have to go outside the country to get a clear view of what’s going on in our own country!
I PRAY the Repubs read this (send it to your favorite congresscritter)
“Thats all well and good but if the news media refuses to report it what are you going to do?”

The problem isn’t with the media, it is with our candidate and other republican leaders’ unwillingness to stop playing nicey-nice and go for the jugular.
MEGA-PING
I agree completely. Too bad Republicans have dropped the ball on this.
McCain campaign should read it!!
For starters, McCain could have drove this point home during the debate the other night. Unfortunately, he went wobbley and failed to do so.
I expect a disatrous debate performance from Palin tomorrow, as she will have to follow the McCain’s line and won’t be allowed to speak the truth. That is what she is so good at. McCain has pretty much destroyed Palin’s biggest asset. He won’t allow her to be genuine. He won’t allow her to be real.
Amen!
Well, I agree. Sarah will have to be a McCain cheerleader and not allowed to show her own mind.

I were a Republican Strategist right now I would be licking my lips, rubbing my hands together, and probably drooling a bit over the prospect of hanging this sub-prime mess around the necks of the Democrats in general and Barack Obama in particular. Fannie Mae (?)
Heres why:
1. Fannie Mae lowered the lending standards in 1999 during the Clinton Administration.
2. One of its CEOs, a Democrat named Franklin Raines, was found to have manipulated the books to amass millions. He was succeeded by Jim Johnson.
3. Jim Johnson, at one point, was in charge of Barack Obamas search committee for a Vice Presidential running mate.
4. Obama, during his four years in office, received more campaign donations from Fannie Mae than any other Senator, four times as much.
5. Democrats in Congress are on record disparaging the investigators who testified to the machinations within Fannie Mae and experts who predicted the sub-prime debacle would occur.
While the mainstream media is doing all it can to distract the public by echoing Democrat claims that this is a greedy Wall Street problem, Republicans could point to the fact that: (?) 6. Fannie Mae required banking and mortgage lenders to make these sub-prime loans. They had no choice. This isnt greedy lenders fault, but it did come back to hurt them.
If this isnt a DEMOCRAT mess, made in Washington, D.C. by DEMOCRATS seeking to lock up minority votes by providing government-backed housing loans, than I am missing something in this equation.
If I were a Republican strategist, I would tap public anger and that, of course, is what todays defeat of the bailout plan represents. By resisting yet another panic-driven, last minute, Christmas tree bill, Republicans have positioned themselves as the taxpayers protectors, but they must now make a powerful case for the action.
If Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats cannot be defeated between now and Election Day, the Republican Party will have no one to blame but themselves.
Excellent points.
But even with facts like this on your side you can’t win an election when your candidate is more concerned with his reputation for working across party lines than he is with winning the election.
McCain is too busy being “bipartisan”.
Desperate times...Yes! The pubbies should go for desperate measures! Call out the press at rallys AND at the debates for hiding the truth about BO! Feature ads rubbing BO’s face into Wright/Islam/Alinsky et al!
It’s eerily quiet in the McCain camp. Are they preparing... A) an all out ad blitz revealing BO’s socialist past? B) A hum dinger of a VP debate with Palin unleashed? or C) the usual bipartisan rhetoric, no playing the “blame game” which will take McCain to obscurity?
I vote C
If McCain had positioned himself as “I was able to defeat $700 billion of new spending proposed by Bush and Pelosi”, he would be in great shape, especially if he was able to say “I have worked with the Republicans to stabilize our economy without needing massive new debt”, he would be even better.
Instead he has positioned himself as “I was convinced
40 people to support an unpopular and expensive bill, but that wasn’t enough to pass it”.
