"John McCain does not support amnesty or benefits for undocumented immigrants," his campaign said in the statement. "He has consistently opposed giving amnesty or public benefits to undocumented immigrants."

Unless something has drastically changed recently, this just isn't true.

But if Obama wants to spread this lie, so be it. :)

The State of Texas under Republican ( RINO Rick Perry) leadership granted in-state tuition for illegal aliens to public universities.

The Boston Globe Democrat (copyright: Michael Graham) runs an editorial every few months urging the Massachusetts Legislature to pass a law giving undocumented Americans (illegal aliens) in-state tuition at state colleges. They use the same BS talking points every time. They say, their parents work and pay taxes in the state. They also say, the immigrants must go to a Massachusetts high school for three years and graduate. Then the bill comes out and it never says anything about parents or paying taxes and it also says, must graduate from a Massachusetts high school or “THE EQUIVELENT THEREOF”. That means someone can cross the Rio Grande, drive to Massachusetts with a Mexican Diploma and they would be eligible for in-state tuition. Thankfully this is one issue the legislature listens to the citizens and votes it down.

If they are paying tuition and book fees what’s the problem with children of illegals attending community college?

Tuition covers only a small portion of the vast sums of government tax money going into all state-sponsored higher education. That's your money that little Juan or Maria is sucking down, and if space is at a premium, they're keeping real citizens out, as well.

It'd be one thing if we had a guest worker program for lettuce pickers, but it's quite another thing to fling open the borders and let every poor person come here to pluck all the fruit, leaves and branches off the tree of the American dream. Since a community college education doesn't qualify you for much anyway (I know, I have one), then you get the Juans and Marias beating your kids out on affirmative action guidelines when it comes time to get paychecks.

My company is winding down its operations, has been for the last couple of months, and so far, about 90% of those who have found jobs elsewhere are in some sort of protected category. I'm very likely to be one of the folks there at the end, with a few weeks of severance for my troubles.

Sounds good to me. But they do it AT THEIR EXPENSE AT OUT OF STATE TUITION PRICES. Our universities are filled with people from all over the world. Besides, if we create an artificial supply of consumers, then there will be more money for education (smile—last sentence only).

By the way, I don’t think anyone should go to community college. Waste of time. Burn them down.

CCs are for football players to get their grades up. Definitely needed.

those students are LEGALLY able to obtain a student visa and finish their education as a TEMP STUDENT VISITOR.

Then they can go home to their parents.

This is about LOWER tuition not eduction.

This is about a handout to illegals.

This is about illegals replacing legal students.

Thank you for a very reasoned and logical response. I agree with you on this issue.

I’ll pray that you find something new before your company shuts down. I was fired once but it was one of the “get the h-— out of here” variety. WHat you’re going through is much worse.

Thanks, I appreciate that! It's tough being a middle-aged white nonveteran guy who doesn't speak Spanish. And you're right, my previous terminations took place at 4:45 PM on a Friday, where you didn't have to face the place the next week. This has been like falling off a cliff in slow motion.

What's worse is that we had a bunch of people who were dedicated to the cause of making our customers happy, now they've lost the will to do a good job, and bickering has emerged. After my company refused to give me a job at another facility in the next state (while making a pretense that they wanted to be fair), I've sort of joined my co-workers in their attitude.

State subsidized education is that for a good reason. So those that live and work and PAY TAXES in the state get a break.

You’re right. I don’t buy this garbage that most illegals pay taxes. They do pay sales tax and other assorted taxes but not SS, income, and medicaid/medicare. If they do, they have committed ID FRAUD, ID THEFT, USING FAKE DOCS and those are felonies punishable by prison time and big-time fines.

Off the books hiring also leads to: welfare fraud, medical fraud, ETC.

Thank goodness they have some sense in the legislature. If obama has his way, the state leg won’t have to worry anymore, it will become a national law that every state has to follow.

I say that mandates, esp about illegal immigration, is TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. (I feel better now after ranting).

McCain, I think, would rather the issue not ever come up during the election. He has the same thoughts on this as Bush, apparently.
