I've watched republican after republican slapped silly by the media, all the while believing their best response is to show the country they can take a punch. Well, nobody is impressed - they only end up looking like the guy at the party who's the last to know the jokes on him.

The country knows the media is biased - no one is gonna blame Palin if she sticks Courics loaded questions so far up her backside she'll have to do a whole show on their extraction.

The media won’t even cover what has been published in Obama’s church bulletins for 20 years.

We aren’t supposed to ask such questions of a fence post turtle.

I was disappointed in her answer plain and simple. If she can’t do better Thursday night she will forever be a Dan Quayle or Dukakis. I still am a backer but am a little sad here.

The smart answer would have been to give liberal and conservative newspapers - to show that she was open to various sources. Washington Times and Washington Post come to mind. So do the NY Times and Washington Journal. Those are more or less opposites of one another.

Don't most of us here surf the net reading various news sources?

Except instantly the media would be probing to uncover her FReeper name.

The only reason Couric asked her this question was so that everyone could then attack her for what she read. You KNOW Couric was expecting her to site ‘conservative’ sources, and then the media would have jumped all over her because she doesn’t read/watch US. They would have had a blast with it.

What does she think - Gov. Palin reads nothing but Archie Comics and the Wasilla newspaper? IMO, it was an asinine question. Gov. Palin knew what KC was doing.

She didn't have a good answer to give. She's the chief executive of Alaska. She gets her news every morning from her aides who provide her with clippings from the major news stories. She probably also reads the local Alaskan newspaper. This would appear unimpressive to the likes of Katie.

In fact, Palin actually told the specific truth when she said that she reads "anything" and "everything" that's "put in front of her". That's the way it works for busy executives. She doesn't have the time to curl up every evening with the New Yorker.

She probably reads articles from everywhere -- The Atlantic, The New Republic, National Review, the New York Times (she once even published an article in the NYT), etc. -- but they were assembled by her staff. So she basically gave the correct answer. It just didn't sound right.

The best answer to this from now on for any conservative is to say they cruise the Net for their news. You can say I go to general news pages like Yahoo that link articles from different news sources and be done with it. And then say to the Drive By asking the question that it appears more and more Americans are doing the same thing because subscritpions and Ad revenue is down across the board in the print media.

The Drive Bys can't accuse you of being out of touch with average Americans and technology like they tried to back up Obama when he put up the ridiculous ad on McCain and him not being able to use a computer. You neuter the cats with with one snip instead of two.

I never read the New York Times or the weekly magazines, the bias drives me nuts. But there is so much info on the internet, it isn’t necessary to read those to be informed. Matter of fact, friends that read those are so one-sided and limited in their knowledge, they don’t know what to say when confronted with contradictory information. Thank goodness for FreeRepublic!
