Gay Democrats Respond to Palin Accusations on Sexual Orientation
MarketWatch ^ | 10/1/08

Today, the National Stonewall Democrats issued the following statement in response by accusations from Governor Sarah Palin that sexual orientation is a choice:

"John McCain chose a poor running mate, but he did not choose his sexual orientation. This is another example of why we need a pro-equality President like Barack Obama in the White House. For Governor Palin to suggest that individuals randomly choose their sexual orientation based on nothing but a whim is wrong and it repeats the talking points of the anti-gay special interests which continue to control the McCain/Palin campaign and the Republican Party."...

Well I see your point....Being pregnant and choosing to abort your baby is wrong..but yes, you do have that choice..you also have the choice to have that baby and love it or put the baby up for adoption..IMHO Life is all about Choice..right and wrong choices....

One of my best friends worked in a Psych Prison...(Yeegads) she did not stay long and she said without a doubt most Pedophiles cannot be cured. However they can Choose to obey the law and respect children....

If people could not control there behaviours they would die when they went to jail...However they manage to live just fine because society gave them a CHOICE to live and obey and they Chose to live in confinement..

Many homosexuals have left the lifestyle out of a Choice..
With GOD’s help and the HUMAN WILL I think most people can overcome most anything...if they CHOOSE to...

Of course there is, and there’s no reason for nongay Republicans not to welcome them.

I saw that interview and clearly Sarah’s intention was to express acceptance and non-judgment. I winced when she used the word ‘choose’, because it is needlessly provocative in a situation where she was trying to be anything but. Was it a tossed-in code word to the less tolerant Christian base? If so, a bad idea.

Was it an example of her being blinded by what’s accepted in the hinterlands, just like Manhattanites, Bostonians and San Franciscans can be obtuse in communicating with their less urban and urbane countrymen? Perhaps. She’s a quick learner and let’s hope she is 100% on point in her next disarmlingly gentle addressing of the subject.

What difference does it make to anyone if I chose to be gay or if I believed I was born that way. Neither would make me a more special faggot or dyke than any other faggot or dyke unless I had a certain natural flare in fashion accessorizing

Governor Palin simply made a logical statement after being asked a leading question by Perky Katie regarding homosexuality.

While Palin's reference to her lifelong gay friend as a context for her response was probably ill-advised, even though true, her comment that she isn't going to judge other peoples choices was entirely in sync with a majority of Americans. We collectively tolerate homosexuality but we don't necessarily endorse it or in any was see it as 'natural'. It isn't.

When the 'gay community' can produce solid scientific evidence that proves homosexual behavior is the result of a gene, I'll change my opinion, as will many others. That day has not arrived and I doubt it ever will. Most Americans understand that homosexual behavior is just that: behavior - a choice.

No one has to have gay sex. I think the majority of Americans get it and would agree with Governor Sarah Palin, who is tolerant of her friend's choice to engage in homosexual behavior but doesn't see it as genetic and unchangeable. Neither do I and I'm not alone in that opinion.

Gays overrate their influence on our society, as opposed to their huge influence on the socialist Democrats and gullible high school and college students. They will not get far attempting to savage Sarah Palin but she needs to stand up and not cave to them. If she does, she'll have a majority of Americans with her.

Homosexuals say..I knew I was Gay when I was 5????WHAT...

Most studies show that this is due to early homosexual experience(s) with adults and/or peers. Other top reasons are a dominant, possessive, or rejecting mother and an absent, distant, or rejecting father.

Clarrence Darrow summed up the liberal/socialist dogma when he said that there is no such thing as a crime, just behavior. He said that back in the 1920’s. John Dewey with the encouragement of the Soviets and Dr. Pavlov set out to remake the American education system by first deconstructing what worked and then replacing it with what he thought would work, “whole word English.” They wanted a dummmed down populace in order to make them dependant upon the government. Strangely enough the Soviets dropped the program when they found that it didn’t work. They went back to phonics.

Engaging in homosexual activity is a choice! Palin’s friend chose to engage in it. That is all Palin’s saying. Sheesh, these gay activists twist language like anything.

This is undoubtedly a waste of time but here goes:

We are not put here to achieve orgasm.

We are not put here to achieve wealth.

We are not put here to achieve power.

We are not put here to become famous or to be idolized.

We are put here to achieve peace, joy, wisdom.

We achieve peace, joy, wisdom (and ultimately salvation) by exercising our freedom of choice.

Each of us has tests to pass, burdens to overcome, sacrifices to make, trials to face. Sometimes these are very painful and difficult. But we are not given any of these things that we cannot face and overcome.

God has set down guidelines and targets to reach. He has stated these clearly and consistently for as long as human beings have existed. Those who try and learn and follow these guidelines tend to do better - often much better - than those who do not. And by “better” I don’t mean by the acquistion of wealth, fame, power or any of the things valued by the majority in this world (though these things sometimes do come to those who try and do God’s will). By “better” I mean that people who try and do God’s will find more peace, more joy, more wisdom and greater certainty of salvation than those who do not.

I do not object to people making bad choices. Not even God will thwart them and bad choices apparently must be made in order to come to a true understanding of what it means to make good choices. I condemn no one who makes evil or stupid choices so long as these do not result in harm to others. As a Chistian I am commanded to forgive and to give aid, if I am able, to any in need - even to the wicked and to my enemies.

Those who complain about the unfairness and harshness of life; of the injustice and cruelty; of the insurmountable burdens and torture; to these I say: welcome to the world as it is for all of us. There is a way out, a way to cope, a way to make the burden manageable and the torture bearable. But, like everything else in this world, it requires a choice be made and a real choice at that. Halfhearted measures don’t work so well and hypocrisy tends to make things worse.

If your life is a mess and you hate how things are look no further than yourself for the reason why. You can destroy every imagined source of your discomfort or you can shut it all away from sight or silence it or otherwise try and bury it and nothing will change. There is a God. He is real. He is right here, right now. He begs us to ask Him for help. He pleads with us to allow Him to aid us. It may take time to peal off all the silliness and stupidity, the false certainties and insanity and prideful “knowledge” that has shackled us for our entire lives but it can be done.

If it really was genetic, then by their own “theory of evolution”, homosexuality would have been bred OUT of the human race 10,000 years ago, or so.

You have no understanding of genetics. I guess Tay-Saches, Down Syndrome and other things wouldn't exist either.

Science has not concluded on a cause of sexual orientation. There could be a genetic component, or not. It could be related to hormone exposure in the womb. It could be nurture. Or it could be some other combination of factors entirely. Whatever the cause, orientation seems to be an innate characteristic. Behavior can be controlled but that isn't the same as altering orientation.

I'd think folks like you would want them involved only with each other anyway to prevent possibly tainting your gene pool. You can't have those nasty gay undesirables mating after all, right?

Clearly homosexuals get here like ever else (until the late 20th century petri dish conceptions) -- heterosexual behavior.

Bush pulled in 20-25% of self-identified homosexuals in 2000 and 2004 according to exit polling.

There's also the "Log Cabin Republicans" group who endorsed McCain/Palin.

"You have no understanding of genetics. I guess Tay-Saches, Down Syndrome and other things wouldn't exist either."

These people are NOT claiming homosexuality is a genetic DEFECT or mutation (such things will always occur BY ACCIDENT in a given species). They ARE claiming that homosexuality is a genetic TRAIT, as in "blue-eyes" versus "brown-eyes". Genetic traits CAN be bred into or out of a species; and a genetic trait that led one to NOT procreate would certainly be bred out of a species relatively early in its "evolution".

"I'd think folks like you would want them involved only with each other anyway to prevent possibly tainting your gene pool. You can't have those nasty gay undesirables mating after all, right?"

How could you POSSIBLY have drawn such a bigoted conclusion about me simply because I do not buy into the "homosexualtiy is genetic" argument? What's wrong with you?

"Clearly homosexuals get here like ever else (until the late 20th century petri dish conceptions) -- heterosexual behavior."

Thank you for making my argument for me. Homosexual behavior is a CHOICE.

Explain how “recessive genes” work. Once you’ve convinced me that you have the basic background to understand grownup discussion of the topic, I’ll get back to you.
