WASHINGTON — The U.S. government is urging consumers to thoroughly cook frozen chicken dinners after 32 people in 12 states were sickened with salmonella poisoning.

The health warning by the U.S. Department of Agriculture cited frozen dishes in which the chicken is raw, but breaded or pre-browned, giving the appearance of being cooked. They include "chicken cordon bleu," "chicken Kiev," or chicken breasts stuffed with cheese, vegetables or other items.

I find it rather strange that there is no mention of whose products these are. If anyone finds anything related to this, could you put it in the thread?

USDA said many of the people who became ill apparently did not follow the package's cooking instructions

How many of my tax dollars are going into this investigation, and doctor bills, of idiots who are so stupid they can't be bothered to read the instructions?

This article list the product affected. Other articles news googling “chicken salmonella” just say folks microwaved the food instead of putting in oven as instructions said.

“It can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems such as infants and the elderly.”

Who feeds their infants “chicken cordon bleu” or “chicken Kiev”?

The instructions on these frozen food items always say to cook thoroughly to at least 180 degrees internal temperature. Follow the directions and you won’t get sick.

I have four or five of those Chicken Kievs in my freezer right now. They're about the size of a fist. The instructions say do not microwave, cook at 400 for 30-35 minutes.

Problem is, people think they're like a large Jeno's Pizza Roll. And now the government must protect us.

I have Barber Foods stuffed chiccken breats and it clearly says on it "Uncooked Chicken". In the cooking directions it says to cook thoroughly. The front of the package says:

UNCOOKED* For food safety, cook to a minimum internal temperature of 165 degrees measured by a meat thermometer*

Thanks for the link.

I’d expect that people would at least read the box to find out how long to microwave it for if they’re going to do that. Then they’d see that it’s not supposed to be microwaved.

Is that expecting too much of people these days?

If you’re gonna be stupid, Salmonella is going to be a part of your life. How many of these geniuses was their hands after wiping their own butts? Is the government going to assign people to take over that duty too?

I contracted Salmonella at a restaurant in 1996. 7-8 hours after dinner I was sick to my stomach, it got worse, much worse. By day 3, I wanted to die, too weak to do anything. Oh my it was terrible and lasted for 8 days. Would not wish it on anyone...except BHO and all his followers, that is.

Not in agreement with wishing ill on The One's followers; only that they either see the light or lose badly.

Needed: USDept of Food Activation. Frozen meals can only be opened after folks call the USDAFA, enter the 86 digit code on bottom of box followed by the pound sign, followed by their SS#, take ten question test to confirm they have read and will follow all instructions for food prep/cooking.

LOL. I used to work summers at Jeno's when I was a college student. You don't want to eat those things!! Go throw them out right now. LOL.
