Exclusive: Obama to hit McCain on Keating scandal
Politico ^

Posted on 10/05/2008 7:37:18 PM PDT by Chet 99

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on Monday will launch a multimedia campaign to draw attention to the involvement of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the “Keating Five” savings-and-loan scandal of 1989-91, which blemished McCain’s public image and set him on his course as a self-styled reformer.

Pushing back against what it calls “guilt-by-association” tactics by McCain, the Obama campaign is e-mailing millions of supporters a link to a website, KeatingEconomics.com, that will have a 13-minute documentary on the scandal beginning at noon Eastern time on Monday. The overnight e-mails urge recipients to pass the link on to friends.

The Obama campaign, including its surrogates appearing on radio and television, will argue that the deregulatory fervor that caused massive, cascading savings-and-loan collapses in the last ‘80s was pursued by McCain throughout his career, and helped cause the current credit crisis.

Oh, gotta love them trying to hit hard with Keating, all the while sweeping Biden’s plagiarism under the “oh it was so long ago” rug.

Not weeks ago. McCain has to conserve money and time the dollars spent like PGMs...pinpointed precisely and hard hitting.

Look at how many time Wikipedia has been rewritten this week!

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Keating_Five&action=history

This part is gone now:

The Senate Ethics Committee lawyer who investigated McCain — Robert Bennett — is quoted as saying: “First, I should tell your listeners I’m a registered Democrat, so I’m not on (McCain’s) side of a lot of issues. But I investigated John McCain for a year and a half, at least, when I was special counsel to the Senate Ethics Committee in the Keating Five. ... And if there is one thing I am absolutely confident of, it is John McCain is an honest man. I recommended to the Senate Ethics Committee that he be cut out of the case, that there was no evidence against him.”

Wasn’t McCain found not guilty in the Keating Five Scandal? Unlike Obama’s association with an admitted domestic terrorist.

Not only was he not found guilty, he was never charged. The lead Democrat counsel, Robert Bennett, tried to get him dropped entirely from the investigation. That wasn't allowed. Apparently, they needed a Republican to be named so that they could claim "both parties do it". All of the others involved were Democrats.

"In an interesting coincidence, CBS, NBC, ABC, and CNN have all announced that they will each have a five-part series this week examining the relationship between John McCain and Charles Keating."

Joking, but not by much......

It’s not the idea, it’s the execution that matters.

As an IT guy I’m wondering why we didn’t set up a website with a 13 minute video covering Ayers and Fannie and Freddy - complete with emails going out to supporters that can be forwarded to others quickly and easily?

They have a lot less to work with here, but I believe they might be outflanking us.

Now McCain’s reticence in hitting the Dems with Raines, Gorelick and Johnson makes some sense. He figured they would hit him with the Keating Five. He can now hit back with the fact of his being cleared of any charges together with a strong offense on these current Dem and Obama advisors and their relationship with Barney F. and Chris Dodd and the part of all of them in causing the current crisis.

‘The Keating 5 Scandal’? BIG DEAL!
McCain was cleared of that- and even if he wasn’t, that cannot compare to the devastating dirt we have on Obama.

If he doesn’t get off his duff and get out there and hit Obama every day, he’s handing the presidency over to Barack Hussein Obama.

Why is he not mentioning such things as Obama trying to turn Missouri into a police state? Obama trying to turn our children into ‘Hitler youth’?

Email Republican headquarters/McCain.

REMIND McCAIN THAT HE HAS AN OBLIGATION AS OUR CANDIDATE TO FIGHT BACK!

If you admit the first sentence, you get to make the argument in the last sentence. Read it again, carefully.
